I would put christians in this scenario. Their child is playing in the park and is allergic to wasp stings. A wasp comes along and lands on the childs hat. Would you kill the wasp? Obviously , yes. A clump of embryonic stem cells is less alive than a wasp and could potentially save your child from life threatening situations.

There are 2 main problems with this. 1, ES cells are harvested from EXCESS embryos from IVF treatment and the only potential they have is the potential to be incinerated or left in a freezer forever. 2, if you oppose the destruction of ES cells based on the soul/religion then your god kills a lot more "potential " babies than all the stem cell science in the world times 911, since a significant number of pregnancies end in miscarriage.

I do not believe in the soul. But that is the common theistic argument. I am not sure what you call it but dogmatic theists believe that at the moment the egg is fertilized that a soul is present.

That is the whole basis of the argument against stem cells and the argument against abortion.

Again I say, I do not believe this is the case.
