I wonder what kind of problem the fundies are going to have with this??? You know something is going to offend their stupidity.

they asre already bitching about it, claiming that the removal of cells constitutes an assault on the embryo and is wrong. I heard some jeetard on npr yesterday. Fucking assholes.

Talking to christians is a waste of time. It's like if your mum comes into your room with a box of toys and wants to put them under your bed, but you don't want her to because you have a shit load of porn there. So you object and she counters your objection with some reasonable point, so you come up with another and so on. Why are the christians really objecting? Because they like controversy and polarizing issues to distract from genuine atrocities like illegal wars, corrupt officials and child molesting priests.

Fuck all Jeetards.

Maybe they do have the theological equivalent of porn under their beds.

The method, described in the current issue of the journal Nature, involves taking a normal 3-day-old embryo with eight to 10 cells and removing a single cell, which is then biochemically coaxed into producing embryonic stem cells. The original embryo, despite missing one cell, is unharmed, thus avoiding concerns about destroying a potential life, the researchers say.
Christians will probably say somehting along the lines of "You can't do that to an embryo! What choice does it have! Now it won't be born with a full soul! Oh jesus save us from these murdering scientists!"

I read somewhere that they still count it as using stem cells (potential humans) as spare parts and is thus degrading human life.

What I dont get is why the media give people who dont understand what they are against an equal (or greater) voice??? What the fuck does a priest know about stem cells?

These idiots don't deserve all the life saving discoveries that will come out of this research.

When a person dies in an accident, and they use their organs to save a life, that certainly isn't viewed as just "using spare parts"

Yeah, you're right. What the hell does a priest know about stem cells? Stem cells aren't even mentioned in the bible. People didn't even know how the hell babies were made. They thought it was the magic of god or something.

I was watching this in the news..apart from the obvious thoughts like "its about time they found a way to do it."

I was then saddened to hear that there is a very small outside chance that there may be damage to to enbryo. I am sure the "ethical" theists will hold onto that small chance and find a way to stop it.

I mean in invitro millions of embryos are killed, why not use those. The fact is that this all boils down to the soul, the factthat an embryo has a soul from the moment of conception.

I reccomend reading "The Ghost in the Machine" it is the latest Atheistic writing that I have read and it lays to waste the argument for the soul.

I would put christians in this scenario. Their child is playing in the park and is allergic to wasp stings. A wasp comes along and lands on the childs hat. Would you kill the wasp? Obviously , yes. A clump of embryonic stem cells is less alive than a wasp and could potentially save your child from life threatening situations.

Then the christian will say. Yes, but embryonic stem cells have the POTENTIAL to become human. There are 2 main problems with this. 1, ES cells are harvested from EXCESS embryos from IVF treatment and the only potential they have is the potential to be incinerated or left in a freezer forever. 2, if you oppose the destruction of ES cells based on the soul/religion then your god kills a lot more "potential " babies than all the stem cell science in the world times 911, since a significant number of pregnancies end in miscarriage.

The situation is absurd already but opposing it now is like having a problem with a parent flicking the wasp away from the child without killing the wasp????

That's a fabulous analogy Choobus!
And this is exactly how Christians behave!
And that is why I say they are atheists - they act like they know they are false!

And those cells also have the potential to grow out-of-control and cause cancer when that kid is 60 years old, so we should kill it now! Now I say! Before it grows!

Could someone please define, "moment of conception"? Are we referring to the moment of penetration, moment of ejaculation, moment of spermification, moment of uterinification, moment of blastocystification, moment of what? Hmm?

when it comes to issues where there is no black and white stances, it comes down to opinions. people by nature are retarded so opinions are shit. except this one.

Or like something Dubya would say. "The culture of life begins at spermification."

If I have a child, I'm allowed to give a doctor permission to take its blood (legally). It won't be any less human (unless the docotor takes a lot of blood... Back, I have a silver cross!) than it was before, and completely unharmed.

I expect Mr Fundy would object to IVF, since it creates an excess of embryos.

Then I would say, so does Jesus except he doesnt even put them in a freezer or use them to help the sick he just sends them to a toilety grave.

God damn, I'm fucking sick of Christians. If you don't believe in evolution and are against scientific research, no more medicine for you. These fucking hypocrits eat themselves to the point their pancreas stops working, and then want the medicine that we've worked hard to create, fighting against these social leeches the whole time. When Christians buy medicine, they should have to pay extra for all the costs that their asshole social crusades have caused in science.

I do not believe in the soul. But that is the common theistic argument. I am not sure what you call it but dogmatic theists believe that at the moment the egg is fertilized that a soul is present.

That is the whole basis of the argument against stem cells and the argument against abortion.

Again I say, I do not believe this is the case.

I am however anti abortion.
