I didn't know where else to put this, but I wanted to share this interesting thing that happened to me tonight at school.
Okay, so I am going to a community college (I is not tu smartz) and I'm taking chemistry 101 as one of my courses this semester. We had a test today over material that was sort of confusing to most of us (remember, community college). The teacher posts a practice test before every test which is usually twice as long as the regular test, but both of them are about the same level of difficulty, and most of us were having a lot of problems understanding a lot of the material, so we went to school early to study together before class.
Well, we were going over one of the problems where we had to find out how many grams of some substance you would get if you added 5 grams of one substance to another substance with a given formula...and I was doing the conversions from moles to grams and back on my T-83. Well, unbeknownst to me, there was some fucking NUTJOB sitting not too far from us just staring at the wall, and all of a sudden he yells at me not to use my calculator. He walks over to me and starts lecturing me on how the government is putting chemicals into our electronics and using various electro-magnetic means to control us. He told me about his mother (at least that's how I understood it...he was speaking about 4 jillion times faster than the micro-machines man) and how she used electronics for 30 years until his organization found out about it, and put her in jail. He told me all about how his group (he never said the name) is petitioning the supreme court to make electronics illegal because they are destroying our country.
Then he tried to tell me that using a calculator was not the easiest way to get the answer that I wanted, but he wouldn't tell me a better way...he just went on and on about the chemicals that the government is using, and how he is going to put me in jail etc....it was really quite entertaining.
It made my test go by much quicker though, because whenever I put in any calculation, I was able to have a nice laugh at the whacko's expense.
Nothing really to do with atheism, but I thought you might appreciate the story. Reminds me of crazy religious whackos who are able to convince themselves of anything, and will try (at least in their minds) as hard as they can to make everyone live according to what they think.

I wish I could take stuff like that in stride, but I'm afraid of crazy.
My wife and I were grocery shopping once, sometime right after 9/11, and ended up in line with this really nice guy, or so we thought. We chatted about the weather (it was raining) and how the line was moving slow. He didn't have as much as we did so he ended up outside at about the same time as we did and even offered to take our cart back for us. We said, "thanks" he said, "no problem... by the way, don't look at the terrorists, look at the russian mob". He then tapped his nose and walked away. The looks my wife and I gave each other were classic.

Community college is filled with a lot of dumbasses. In my opinion, if you don't earn a high GPA, you are one of the dumbasses. There are some very lazy people in my some of my classes. THey show up without the assigned text read and none of the chapter problems worked. In accounting, if you don't do the problems, you can't really learn the material. Community college isn't "low quality" in terms of the curricula. The freshmen and sophomore courses are about the same at a university; you will learn the same material. However, the quality of students is poor. In my opinion, the only serious students are listed on the President's List (3.75 + GPA). If a student can't earn an A for freshmen and sophomore classes, they are performing badly and will have a difficult time in more advanced classes. I go to CC because it is cheap. And yes, I am on the President's List.

It wouldn't matter. There isn't a limit. To be on the list, one must meet the GPA requirements. There are about 3000 full and part-time students. There are probably about 200-300 on the President and Dean's (3.5 - 3.74 GPA) list.

90 students on the Full-time President's List. I just looked up the total number of students and I was off by 2000 students - ~5100 in all.
The Dean's List is actually shorter. CC is made up of smart students who want to complete Gen Ed classes for cheap and transfer them to a university and idiots who can't get into better schools. Therefore, there isn't much of a middle ground, as the Dean's list suggests...

I've earned 100% on tests before. One of which was in Chem 101. Also, try looking at a picture and writing down the artist's name, title of the artwork, and the period. There was about 25-30 slides to identify on each test, plus some terminology. There was no answer box or multiple choice. I earned over 100% on all my Art History tests. There was some extra credit on it - about 12% worth. My highest test score in that class was 110% About half the class failed or earned a D on each test.

The prof read all the potential test questions as a study aid, the class before the test. Man, I should have taken some of those classes, just to pad my gpa, but couldn't be bothered to waste my time. Take some Physics and Math classes beyond Calculus and Sophomore Physics with Calculus. The ones you are talking about are pussy general ed classes. I was on the Dean's list (3.6+ gpa) with Junior- and Senior- level Physics and Math classes.

Not necessarily. Just do it after you're out, like I did. I had some edumacation in the Nav, but didn't start college until I was out a year.....at the age of 25 and working for a living, too. Community college is filled with a lot of dumbasses.
My problem with CC is that the class moved slowly, as the professors struggled to get people to actually pass the class. Basically, there was no point to do the reading, because the professor essentially would teach everything again -- slowly -- for all the dumbasses who didn't do it.
That's the joy of community college -- it's for everybody, even people with no interesting in learning.

I would say most of my classes moved at an acceptable pace. However, in my accounting class, we move really slow because of the idiots who don't do their homework. I think about skipping class because of this problem. I basically just sit there for most of the class waiting for the class to catch up.

Yeah, but we are only half way through the semester. My classmates consistently do not have their homework done. I about walked out of the class when I was paired with some dumbass to do group work. I sat their for 50 mins doing nothing.
We have a syllabus that lists every problem from each chapter that we are to have done. I usually have them all done by the day we begin discussing a chapter. The fool who sits behind me asks everyday which problems we are to have done... I always tell him "the problems assigned for the chapter".
We had an open book test and most the class scored a B or lower... that is how bad the situation is.

Two weeks to complete an entire class (16 weeks worth) is stretching it. I have other classes too...
Completing the class in two weeks doesn't really do me any good anyways, I would still have to wait until the next semester to start a more advanced accounting class.

My guess is that when (or if) you get out of clown college and into a good school you will realize that you're nothing special. Something similar happened to me. Not necessarily. Just do it after you're out, like I did. I had some edumacation in the Nav, but didn't start college until I was out a year.....at the age of 25 and working for a living, too. My first semseter I was working 35 hours a week and taking 17 units. I only did that once. Even if you only take 2 classes a semester, you can get a degree, eventually. Just stay on it!
I would do that if I weren't trying to get into a commissioning program and get the military to pay for all of my classes. I'm working at it right now, and just staying at it.
Isn't that what ROTC does?
ROTC is one method of doing it. However, in ROTC, you don't get paid as an E-5 with full benefits to go to school full time for 2 years. There is a program I am working on getting into that does just that.
I have 2 children and I cannot afford to just be in ROTC. This method works best for my personal situation so that I can still get what I want to get out of life while still being fully capable of fulfilling my obligations to my children (and not being so stressed from work that I struggle through classes)

That is, of course, unless the student is deployed for the first 4 weeks of class, and misses all of the introductory material, and has to teach himself everything just to be at the same level of the rest of the class when he returns.
Or is carrying 13 credits, 40+ hours at work, and taking care of a 9 year old child. That's okay, though, witha b avg, I'm just in it for shits and giggles. :P :whiteflag:
Hey, did you simply print out the .jpg of the chart of the atheists? My email to you bombed. You can use whatever you want....
I used your online version, its a little fuzzy, but its still good for me, Thank you, it makes me happy while figuring out moles.

The quality of CC is dependant on what your state is. Florida's are comparable to 4 year university's first 2 years, cost less, and have loads of AS, AA and certificate programs available. Wv, however, has a set cirriculum, 3 or 4 degrees (accounting, dental assistant, hygenist, pre nurse), are barely accredited, and cost as much as a 4 year university. I was planning when I moved up here to continue w/ a CC to save money, but instead I quit until I could eke out enough for the University here.
