Found my way here from Pharyngula. Looks like fun.
I'm a Tex-Pat, living in Germany for a while (likely headed back to the US next year), an atheist and skeptic, and generally otherwise a normal guy.
I'll hoist a good German beer for y'all shortly.

Welcome,
I'm originally from Houston. How's the atheism in Bavaria? I've heard they like to serve it with a warm bowl of soup.
welcome to our humble forum, carolus!
Welcome, carolus.
Where are you from in Texas, and where are you in Bavaria?
I was born and grew up in Munich, and currently live in Dallas. Hoist some tasty beers for me.
Yes. Summer is the best time (warm weather, Biergarten, going to the lakes or the mountains), followed closely by  Oktoberfest (which is right now).
It's so nice to have posts from the other side of the globe!

Heya all, thanks for the warm welcomes. Still mostly lurking and getting a feel for the place now, but I'll be around.
I'm an adopted Austinite (my wife's a native, I was roped into the clan) and we currently live ... well, in the middle of about nowhere. If you get a map of Bavaria and find Regensburg, Bayreuth and Nurnberg, then look at the big empty space in the middle -- THAT'S where we live.
I work for the US Army at the largest NATO and US training area in Europe, a lovely place known as Grafenwoehr.
Though, we may be moving back to Austin in the spring.
Folks are mostly social Catholics here, but the younger generations (post-WW II and so), seem to be pretty casually atheistic with strong community ties to the church. I do know a good handful of people who have bought their way out of the church and are openly atheist, however.
Yep. It's Oktoberfest season. I avoid it like the plague. TOO many people and TOO expensive. Especially with the US Dollar in the tubes right now ...
