Theist or Deist?

I am 17 years old I had been taken to church since i was allowed to leave the hospital up until about two years ago. I also am enrolled in a "christian" school, and have been since k-4. I have had the christian version of God shoved, not only down my throat but also into every other plausible oriface of my body. I just accepted it and took it as fact not ever questioning if what they were saying made logicl sense. Then one day I paid attention (full attention not half awake or sub-conscience attention) in class, and what my bible teacher was saying did not make sense at all. This is what brought me to the questioning stage that I am currently at. On to my beliefs...In my opinion it is feasible to claim that a metaphysical agent(all powerful being) created everything and just let it go, like an ant farm. As well as the opportunity that it all happened by chance. My only dilema is whether this metaphysical agent interacted with man kind at one point in time or if he has always been as distant he is at current.

Yes, I do realize this is an atheist forum but I would like any insight I could get.

There are more usernames. Many more. And you people came in here pretending not to know one another. One of you (if there is indeed more than one) told us all how we're going to hell.

None of you can spell worth a fuck, and your lack of scientific knowledge is exceeded only by your lack of grammatical skillz.

But, this is finally an explanation (whether it's true or not remains to be seen.) I've asked countless times for an explanation before and this is the first one. I think the other mods would agree that this has bought you some time.

Me? I consider myself atheist when concerning the defined gods of the world's religions. I do not believe in YHWH, Allah, Vishnu, Zeus, Jesus, etc, etc.

I consider myself agnostic when it comes to some kind of deistic god.

A/theism is about what you do or do not believe (theism meaning "(religious) belief," and a- meaning without).

Agnosticism is about what you can or cannot know (gnosis meaning "knowledge," and a- meaning without).


Believing in a "deistic" being does not prohibit you from being agnostic, because you cannot categorically "know" that such a being exists. When it comes right down to it, as someone else on the this forum pointed out, we're all -- from Richard Dawkins to Joey Ratzinger -- agnostic because none of us can know anything beyond this natural world.
