View Full Version : Born and raised in the Bible Belt

I was born in southern Georgia. I lived the first twenty years of my life completely in that state. It's packed with religious fundies and all manner of the insanities that go along with that fact.
I've been an atheist since the age of eight, when I realized that you had to kiss god's ass to get into heaven.:hand: In that instant, I knew it was all a pack of stinking lies. I've never looked back.
I still live in the Bible Belt--North Carolina--which is equally as insane as Georgia in that respect.:bird: There are just as many nutbag religionists here as anywhere else in the South.
I'm a letter carrier for the USPS, and I'm also a writer, with more than fifty published short stories, hundreds of pages of comic book scripts (I even wrote briefly for Marvel Comics back in the early 90s), one novel, and I've edited one major horror anthology. You can check out my website at:

Thanks! It's not so bad if you try to tune it out.
Welcome Phil!
One of our esteemed members (Anthony Fuchs) lives in NC. No idea how close he is to Charlotte though.

It's on his site. Something about finding prehistoric intelligent non-human beings. Looks strange.

Welcome Phil--
Congratulations on the book--but I wouldn't go bragging about working for Marvel comics in the 90's --shudder....

My book's going great. I just need to want to write a book, come up with an idea, write the book, name it, and get it published. Then I'll be done.

Then you're at about the same stage as me. I was going to write a book about how I'm a chronic procrastinator, but well, you can guess.

Have you asked for an advance yet? That is usually considered the midpoint of the development process.

It did okay. I sold the movie rights to it recently.

Heh heh. I only wrote for one book for them--CLIVE BARKER'S HELLRAISER. Horror title.

Everywhere I go I'm asked if I think the university stifles writers. My opinion is that they don't stifle enough of them. There's many a best-seller that could have been prevented by a good teacher.
