Hey there everyone, I just found this site today and decided to jump in.
My name is Alex and I live in the burbs of Kansas City. I grew up in a pretty religious neutral family, we went to lots of different churches when I was a kid. As I got older, I became more and more skeptical of the bible and eventually religions in general. I do find myself fascinated by them though, they seem so useless, yet so many people are drawn to them. It baffles me. I've read several really good books on the matter (the best being The Case Against Chrstianity...I highly reccomend it) but in no way consider myself to be an expert.
My views on the subject of religion are simple. They are antiquated beliefs that have run their course. Much like the thought that the world was flat at one time. Their usefulness has long expired, therefore making them superfulous, we no longer need a reason to get people to gather into productive societies...we already have them.
I could go on forever, but I'll stop there for now. I'm sure you will see more here and will get a feel for me.
I look forward to reading many of the interesting topics here.

Welcome to the forum, MrPro. Is everything still up-to-date in Kansas City and have they really gone about as far as they can go?

I kid.

I once visited your lovely city for a few days back in the 90s, and found it charming, attractive and vibrant. I especially liked the arts district downtown and that area where there are no stop signs or traffic signals. I figured any place that has an area like that must be very civilized. :)

Thanks everyone for the welcome. I have really been enjoying reading many of the threads that are going on here. Many of you share much the same thoughts as I do and it gives me at least a little glimmer of hope for the world :P
I've recently turned my twin brother on to the site, and he's quite impressed. He is an aspiring Marine Archaeologist, and staunch Atheist and always looking for a good outlet.
Irr - Not much has changed here since you visited in the 90's....a few more stores and a few more people is all...lol. The area downtown with no lights or traffic signs is called "The Plaza"...yes, I know, very original. I used to work up there and was always surprised by the fact that there wern't accidents every day. It's a nice change of pace from the more rural areas surrounding the city though.
