From PZ Myers (http://scienceblogs.com/pharyngula/2008/01/are_we_a_christian_nation.php), here is a link to a thorough dissection of the deliberately misleading House Resolution 888 (http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/1/4/884/00472/895/430331), which is currently up for consideration, but has flown under the radar.

It's a sordid story of the religious right trying to pass a resolution that uses phony history to prop up right-wing claims of religious lunacy.

Although it shouldn't surprise me anymore, the balls on these devious little Christpunchers are amazing, and the desire of Congress to not appear anti-Christian plays right into it.

The two things that I think of while reading this are
1. What hypocrites the big "D" Democrats are. They have gone to such lengths to pander to the Christians. This "statement of outrage" is to show the secular how really gosh darn sorry they are that this is going down. Fuck them.

2. What a curious parallel between this attempt at locking our nations history in place and the locking of origin myths in place.

Very disturbing! :(

Why do I get the feeling that the idiots of the USA are going to shoot it out with each other in the near future? Gulp!

This is why I tell my 16 year old son not to automatically believe what he reads in his school history textbook, but to make sure he can verifiy whatever it is from at least two outside sources. He actually enjoys it, and points out some interesting things.

I sure hope he's not the only student at his school who does that.

Yet another reason to buy up copies and reprints of historically relevant writings.

What in the proposed resolution is deliberately misleading?

What in the proposed resolution is deliberately misleading?
Did you read the review of it?

The entire "historical" basis of this bill is based on erroneous historical information.

mislead
verb1. lead someone in the wrong direction or give someone wrong directions; "The pedestrian misdirected the out-of-town driver" 2. give false or misleading information to [syn: misinform (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/misinform)]
Every "Whereas" statement in Resolution 888 has been debunked. It's a rewrite of American history. The sponsors of this bill are presenting false information in a deliberate fashion. Your tenuous grasp of the English language may have let this slip through the cracks, but they were in fact "deliberately misleading" in their presentation of this bill. :bird:

Jack,
You haven't responded to the four examples (3 more than you asked for) of misleading items in HR888.

Do you agree that they are misleading?
