Welcome Mr. Wimpy. No hurry with the background. Meanwhile I will amuse myself with ruminations upon the obscure fast-food franchise bearing your name.

I was amazed to learn that Wimpy "restaurants" still exist! There's even a new one just opened in Benfleet! It seems the only exist in places where the the only people who go there live there. Like Ruislip and Eastcote, and of course Benfleet.

Hmmm, I thought the term reacharound meant just to place your arm around a person. Like when some one pretends to yawn in a movie theater are stretches his or her arm around their neighbor. Boy am I naive :\

Amazed?!! - I'm horrified.

Recently acquiring Wimpy, Famous Brands (http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/wimpy-burger-bars-sold-to-famous-brands-for-1633m-438242.html) has 452 Wimpys in South Africa where it enjoys a strong market position. Mr Hedderwick said he would not replicate the model in the UK, but would bring some of its successful ideas on board, such as widening the breakfast menu, coffee offering and snack menu and adding healthier options.
He is cautious about the number of stores that could open in the next couple of years and said work will instead be focused on reinvigorating the brand. He hopes to use the Wimpy platform to introduce some of the company's other brands, which include Debonairs Pizza, into the UK.
Wimpy is the UK's largest independently owned franchise restaurant chain. Established in 1954 as a table- service restaurant at Coventry Street in London, it grew rapidly, opening in town centres and at service stations. The company owns the Wimpy trademark in 15 European countries.

I dread the thought of more of the damn places opening!

I'm also a bit worried about those wider menus, some of those menus are wide enough already, they hardly fit on the bloody table.

"There is 50 years of heritage behind the brand". Well, "heritage" is one word for it, but not the one I would use.

Hopefully they will limit their expansion to places like Benfleet and we can all safely get on with out lives.

Have you never seen Full Metal Jacket? "You look like the kind of faggot that would fuck a guy in the ass and not even have the goddamn common courtesy to give him a reacharound!"

If you haven't seen it, see it now. The first twenty minutes are hilarious.

My avatar is J. Wellington Wimpy of the Popeye comic strip. That is what I was thinking of when I chose the name Mr. Wimpy. I had no idea there was a chain of restaurants with that name in the U.K. MY Mr. Wimpy was portrayed as a freeloader who was always looking for a free meal, etc. His signature line in the strip was "I will gladly pay you tuesday for a hamburger today" His actions always reminded me of organized religion promising salvation at some undetermined time in the future for 10% or more of your earnings today.

Welcome back, Mr Wimpy. I remember this character from when I was a kid, and his "I will gladly repay you Tuesday" line. Ah, happy days. And yes, in respect to religion: excellent choice.

I've tried several times to reply to this thread and post replies to other threads as well. I get a dialog box telling me my reply is too short and the reply I posted is missing! What am I doing wrong? If this one goes through then I would guess it has been corrected somehow. If not I will keep trying.

Walla! I have no idea what I did. I said I would give some personal backround so here goes. First off I want to be upfront and tell you I was here previously under another identity. I bought a new computer and changed my ISP and when I tried to log on I was told my password was wrong. I couldn't get another one for the old user name because they would only send it to my old email address which was no longer valid. Anyway, I thought it would be easier to get back on the forum under a new identity. My name is Mr. Wimpy and I am an atheist! I am sure there are many who know how liberating that makes on feel when you finally put everything together and decide to declare yourself free from the suffocating tyrany of religilous dogma. There are a few things I believe in and none of them have a supreme being at the center. I believe in the natural order of the universe and the resultant appearance of our little blue spaceship in our galaxy. I believe the fortuitous placement of said spaceship within our tiny planetary system allowed life to spring forth and flourish and evolve with nothing to aid it other than the passing of unimaginable time and the life sustaining energy of our sun and of course water. So there is my take on life on earth, the mixture of time, sun and water. No all knowing, all seeing "benevolent" benefactor with a flowing white beard and a violent mean streak watching over his "children". I don't believe in Pantheism, alternate gods, a unversal force, etc. I believe in life, nature and the natural order. I believe we are the product of chance and as such are at the mercy of chance. We could be here for another billion years or we could be gone next tuesday, right before I have to pay for my last hamburger!

I''m sorry, I don't understand. I could not sign on after setting up my new computer with a new ISP because the password I thought was the right one was being rejected. When I requested a new PW and entered my new email address I got a msg that said it was not recognized and was not offered any further remedy. My old email address was inactive and useless. That is why I went the new identity route.

Be sure to set up an email that is independent from your ISP. I've been there with that, and if you change providers, well...you lose your account with them. I personally think you could have been a little more forthcoming about your previous account, vs just posing as a new member.

Choobus was referring to signing your first few posts in this thread with a "Mr. Wimpy" at the bottom.
Since the post appears with your username on the left, there is no need to sign it at the bottom, that's all.

Every forum has at least one weirdo signing his every post with his nickname. You can't argue with them because it makes them upset. Or so I've learned.

If you look in the archives, Rhino and Tenspace both used to do it as well, so it's not exclusive to weirdos.

Please tell me how I could have been more forthcoming about my previous identity. I could not post to the forum. I did not have a password. There is a little box in lower left hand corner that tells what you may or may not do and mine were all "may nots". And besides that what did I say or do that makes you think I was be evasive or trying to hide something. As soon as I was able to post a reply I told everything there was to tell. I was here previously, lost my ability to post, tried repeatedly to correct it and finally being the lazy ass that I am I took the easy route and set up a new account. Did I break forum rules or do you just feel like getting in someone's face today?
