I take it your taking this story literally? So god killed everyone in sodom because it's people were immoral? Assuming that every adult there was guilty of immorality, What about the innocent children? what about the pregnant women and unborn babies?

It's clear that God judges societies and holds us responsible not just for our own actions, but for our inaction in preventing injustice around us. It's a strange concept in our very individualistic society.

Now I don't pretend to know more about the Bible than a theist, but as I remember this story, Lot offered up his daughters to stop God's messengers from being beaten up (not necessarily gay raped) and that this was clearly an example of moral behavior from the view of God. The Old Testament may be complex (nonsensical would be a better word), but how do you explain how God supposedly went through the effort to save this one man in an immoral city if he weren't of outstanding morality and therefore condoned Lot offering up his daughters to be raped. And was this not the guy whose wife got turned into a salt lick for turning around? What was her sin there, not blindly following her husband?

If I were a theist I don't think I'd be defending this at all.

Actually thomas they didn't rape anyone. You who claims to kow the scriptures so well apparently forgot that they were "struck blind" by the magic of the two "angels" before they actually DID anything.

Besides as Gen 19:13, the "angels" say, "for we are about to destroy this place, because the outcry against its people has become great before the lord, and the lord has sent us to destroy it."

So they were sent there with the mission and intention of destroying Sodom anyway before all the men from the city came out to "know" them.

Otherwise, why would 1) 3rd and 4th born sons from a womb that has never birthed a woman have an exponentially higher change of being gay than 1st and 2nd born, or 3rd or 4th born with an older female sibling? (Ridley, 1997) and 2) individuals with strong anti-homosexual beliefs show stronger erections than a control group with neutral beliefs when shown gay porn? (Ramachandran, 1998)?

I think that maybe God needs to double-check his recipe. Either that, or he just keeps making them because He loves their fashion sense.
