View Full Version : A severe warning against MBNA

I don't wish to go in to the details of my bad experience, but ...

I would strongly advise against anyone taking out a credit card with MBNA.

I have found them to be a terribly nasty company. They have expoited my inability to pay that came about thanks to a serious accident (in which I could well have died, and which had me out of work for three months, and working part-time for a further three) to wring every penny they can out of me.

I live in the UK, and I am talking about MBNA Europe.

On the other hand I have found that a high street bank, with which I had a Visa card, to be excellent and caring and humane.

I suspect that people will find a greater degree of humanity, concern, and responsiblity, from credit-card providers who are also high street banks.

I am very glad that I shall soon be able to put MBNA out of my life forever.

credit relief companies have a good draw though... get rid ouf credit fast, but in despairation, no one seems to see the fine print that your @$$ is theirs for all of eternity...

reminds me of religion and "saving your soul"

PanAthiest, I fully agree with you about MBNA. I'm in the U.S. and they're just as bad here. They totally ruined our credit because we were 1 month in arrears. I use a Visa debit card now. Much easier, no bills. :)

That is precisely the reason I have only ONE card, and it is through a local Credit Union with real live (and friendly!) people who actually give a shit about you and go the extra mile to help you out. In this day and age, with the rapidly accelerating trend of insanity and ugliness rendering most of the world (or human society at least) fit only for destruction, it's nice to know that somewhere out there, a remnant of sanity and "life as it used to be and ought to be again" remains.

I have an MBNA card, but I don't use it. they send a new card every few months and keep upping the limit I guess because they figure it will encourage me to use it.

thanks for the warning though; So they say a lot of things on your report just for ONE month out of pay? I thought CC companies had to give you a grace period of so many days without charges, then at least one billing period without a negative credit report.

Yes, I missed one billing period and the payment didn't reach them until a week into the next period. This was before on-line bill paying so all payments went by snail mail.
