Working For A Christian Company

Ghoulslime has a job dilemma. This week, I got a call for a job. (The language school where I have been the director was closed down last week) Anyway, I went to the interview. We were almost ready to seal the deal when the man behind the desk states very proudly that it is a Christian company. He goes on to sing the praises of the great Christian virtues of the owner. I just tried to smile politely and let it pass, but then I realized he was trying to figure out if I were a Christian without actually asking me directly. I said something neutral like, “that’s very admirable”. Then I worked the conversation so that I could get the hell out of there.

They called today and left a message on my answering machine. I presume they want me to work for them. To go or not to go, this is the question! I could pretend for a while, but I am sure they would eventually figure out my religious inclinations.

What would you do in my situation? :/

I'm thinking about just saying "fuck it" to everything and becoming a truck driver. Or maybe I'll just go to West Hollywood and start giving hand jobs for crack.

If it's an otherwise good job and it pays well, then I'd go ahead and take it. Your personal religious beliefs are none of their business, and it's illegal for them to discriminate against you on the job.

Hahaha, I don't know about your personal experience with Christians, but I've met very few of them that would make giving hand jobs for crack seem like a viable alternative!

I'd say as long as the company doesn't try to push its religious crack onto the community - go for it. The way I see it, it could be a chance to convert a few lost souls, or at least keep the money coming in until you find a better job. In any case some Christians can get to see that atheists aren't Satan worshipping hell-spawn looking to damn the human race. I know it probably doesn't help much - but those are my thoughts.

What a perfect opportunity! Take the job, but don't let them proselytize or require you to go to prayer meetings, etc.

I had a chance to work for a local affiliate of James Dobson's American Family Association. After much thought, I decided it would be better to work in logistics support for a government contractor. At least I could sleep at night. :)

Don't do it. My mother is still a Christian, and she works at a "Christian" company and they drive HER nuts. If you managed to get the job, they'd find a way to fire you eventually. The problem is that so-called Christian companies cause people to break down some of their formality becuase of perceived similarities, but actually they are still people and the so-called "Christianity" makes it worse because they want to push their varying perceptions of what Christianity is onto each other, while still being controlled by natural human drives.

And it means that there's going to be less tolerance over the normal things people do, like cussing, getting angry, and dealing with power issues. walmartsucks.com exists for a reason. A lot of those poor people think that they work for a xtian company too.

Only talked with him on the phone, and not only is he an arrogant asshole, he's an idiot. One time I spent over a half hour trying to get him to understand that a QuickTime file I sent him needed to be opened in QuickTime, and not WMP or Photoshop. The whole time he was berating me, saying that the file I sent him didn't work, and I'd have to do it again, while I just gritted my teeth and tried to explain the file was fine, he was trying to open it in the wrong program. He finally gave up because he had an important dinner to attend, and told me to fix it by later that night "or else". I didn't do a damn thing, just left the office and went Frolfing, but someone must have figured it out cause "or else" never happened.

Something else to remember, is that True Christians always have an ulterior motive. They place their faith and their secret motives above everything else, including the business and customer.

My company will not sell to churches anymore without 50% up front and an iron-clad contract. We have been burned so many times it's become an industry joke. When we called the sheriff of one town, where we were headed to file a lien and pick up the equipment, the sheriff told us that, "I go up there all the time. They never pay their bills."

I was also involved with a True Christian in the music industry. If he didn't get his way (regarding copyrights, lawyers, contracts, etc), he would literally throw a tantrum. I've had to break up fights between him and the lead singer. Although I will say there were two instances where he provided lifelong memories: 1) Introducing him to Glenn Danzig, and listening to his inane questions, and 2) watching the drum tech pull him out of a trash can at a club. Apparently, the bouncer guarding backstage didn't believe he was with the band and stuffed his drunk ass into the can. :)

Actually, I'm going to have to really make an effort curb the vulgarity. I wanted to post on this earlier but was to busy. I am posting now to keep this topic alive as it is an interesting one.
On another atheist site there was a very important story in this regard and unfortunately I did not save the link. I will try to find it and post it. The story was about an atheist who was working for a (if I remember correctly) large distribution company as a supervisor. He accepted a transfer to another location and resettled his family. Unfortunately he was unaware of the fact that he had moved into a very religious community. To make this short the community found out about his non religious ways and things got ugly. Apparently the men under him refused to follow his instructions and the company let him go.

From personal experience I will add this. The more religious the people I have worked for the more invasive and evasive the were. They are willing to stick their nose were it does not belong and even gossip to the point of slander. I am talking about something that actually ends up being something you have to deal with outside of the work place. That of course is when it becomes slander.

To be fair I have known Atheist and Objectivists who have engaged in similar stupid behavior.

I would suggest you keep a very good accounting of your activities and even consider audio equipment as a means of recording inappropriate things. That said I am not a lawyer so anyone here who can add to that with some legal facts...please do.

That may sound extreme but remember your working reputation is important and it is now in the hands of people who believe in the non existent. As an example of what I just said I wonder how many religious people would be worried if their child, who at age 5 or so, had an imaginary friend, now at age 16 had that same imaginary friend. Do you think they would send them to a psychiatrist? :D

I work for a trade as a means to go to college. Well my boss is christian and doesn't bring it up anymore but he hired this new guy to help him manage. the first time i hear him talk he says the company i work for and that our boss is christian. this guy is strange, he aso has a white pride tattoo although he said he was ashamed of it now. He was making rascist remarks still about other ethnic groups.
Well anyway my boss told him that one of his co-workers were the anti christ, i laughed at the new guy and said that could be me. he offered to teach me about the bible but i kindly declined. this is all his first day on the job.

First off, white males aren't in power, rich white males are, and everyone knows rich people are above the law. Let's see, off the top of my head. Speaking of race and the white supremacy movement. I have a question for the atheists here that have spent more time surfing than me. I joined a yahoo group for atheist. I was there a couple of days before i dug into the files section of the group. What i found was audio files(and text) of speaches spoken by white supremacy idiots. I was shocked that atheist were thinking like christians. I wrote an e-mail/post to the administrator. On this group the administrator has to read a post before it is posted as a post. My post was asking the question, "is this shit your opinion or some member who went nuts". My post never made the grade because it disappeared into cyberspace with no explanation or reply. I quit the group.

Actually, I've been really busy. They have been loading some serious assignments on Slime. I have been out on the road, going around to the company's bigger clients, doing some software support. (ie: checking for bugs in a new upgrade) I am getting sent to Hawaii next month. Poor, Ghoulslime!

Actually, I've been really busy. They have been loading some serious assignments on Slime. I have been out on the road, going around to the company's bigger clients, doing some software support. (ie: checking for bugs in a new upgrade) I am getting sent to Hawaii next month. Poor, Ghoulslime!

There is just no way I could shit on the boss' car. He is really a mellow dude. The other day, one of the office ladies offered me a Jesus fish for the back of my car.
