Click here (http://www.freewayblogger.com/abstinenceonly/home.htm) for some fun, safe information about abstinence.

Here's some fun things that faith partners can do besides have sex.

1) Go out to a movie or watch TV! Make some popcorn and have a popcorn party!

2) Engage in wholesome sports activities or play board games like checkers, chess or Monopoly!

3) Rigorously rub your face, body and genitalia against those of your faith partner until orgasm. (Also known as 'faith-fucking')

Rhinoq, I was just now IN THE ACT of posting on abstinence programs. The SBA must be sending out vibes to all true believers.

What I was going to post was this (http://www.nytimes.com/2005/06/15/health/15pledge.html) on the Faith, Dopes, and Chastity thread, but I'll put it here instead. It pisses me off that the frigging New York Times would blare in a headline that two new studies "REBUT" the studies that show virginity pledges don't work. Then they casually mention that the "rebuttal" was not peer-reviewed (or even unpublishable in real academic journals). Idiots.

Whoa, that is weird. The SBA's must want the truth to be told.

I was BS'ing with a waitress I know at me local pub, and she regaled me with some study they were talking about in her sociology class the other day. Supposedly, teens that go through the "Abstinence Only" programs have a higher tendency to have anal sex, because they don't view it as "real" sex (supposedly 'cause you can't get preggers). Don't have any sources on this though, sorry. If anyone else has heard this, please post a link.

Speaking of which, it was hard to look at this (http://www.freewayblogger.com/abstinenceonly/analabstinence.htm) without thinking of a barbecue at casa de Ghoulslime.

(Ghoulslime I love ya, man.)

This blurb might be of interest

Washington Post - Teenagers who take virginity pledges — public declarations to abstain from sex — are almost as likely to be infected with a sexually transmitted disease as those who never made the pledge, an eight-year study released yesterday found.

Although young people who sign a virginity pledge delay the initiation of sexual activity, marry at younger ages and have fewer sexual partners, they are also less likely to use condoms and more likely to experiment with oral and anal sex, said the researchers from Yale and Columbia universities.

“The sad story is that kids who are trying to preserve their technical virginity are, in some cases, engaging in much riskier behavior,” said lead author Peter S. Bearman, a professor at Columbia’s Institute for Social and Economic Research and Policy. “From a public health point of view, an abstinence movement that encourages no vaginal sex may inadvertently encourage other forms of alternative sex that are at higher risk of STDs.”

Hey thanks, Slinky, it probably was the Yale/Columbia study she was talking about. I guess I could always ask her next time I stop for a frosty mug.

I also recall the DARE program having similar results. A friend of mine used to be a 7th grade science teacher, and had to participate in DARE (which I always found highly ironic). He did some research and said from what he could tell, DARE did next to nothing to prevent drug use. He also told me a lot of what was taught about drugs in DARE was wrong (inaccurate information). Why can't we just start being honest with our kids, instead of trying to frighten them and lie to them? Now, I'm not talking about advocating heroin addiction or anything, but what's really wrong with having a drink, a little puff puff, or enjoying some psilocybin? In moderation, of course, as Aristotle taught us. ;)

DARE was a complete failure where I lived in Connecticut. Even the cops stopped participating. The kids all thought it was a joke.

When I was a kid, we all made into adulthood without all of these feel good programs.

What?!? Well in that case, I propose abstinence programs should be in place in every school in America effective immediately! The very moral fiber of our society depends on it!
