I have recently opened my eyes to atheism... I started a tiny debate with some of my friends. Here is one of the responses I got -- wow, i have a lot to answer to here. Well for starters, yes trevor, you are right i shouldn;t have said smartass. Infact, i fought within myself as to whether or not i should have used it. obviously my old Sin Nature won. Thank you for the reminder.
Corey, I will tell you why christianity is the True Faith. Because first, its a faith. And faith is believing on something that may or may not be seen and believing it is true. I will tell you why other religions like Islam and Bhuddism and Hinduism are wrong. Islam believes that works will get you to heaven. That is not what the Holy Bible says. Bhuddism is not a religion... if you had taken World History you would have read that. Bhuddism is a style of life mixed in with philosophies. Sure they sound good and maybe are good but they are not true. Hinduism is wrong cuz there are multiple gods (yeah, gods with a lowercased "g") that have no proof of existance.
And here i'll give you proof that the Bible is true and that God exists (even though a true Christian doesn't really need such material proof). Soddom and Gomorrah in the Bible. Destroyed by God. Archealogists recently found ashes and large salt deposits located where many theologians believe the cities were located. The conflict in Israel? You know how that started? Abraham in the Bible was given a piece of land to start a God-worshiping tribe on and i cant remember exactly how it goes but another tribe to the north invaded Abrahams land. God said that war would never end until he (God) returns. What other proof need you corey?
Now for the matter of the Bible being a legended passed down from generation to generation... totally untrue. Look back in history from the time the Bible was completed to now and you will see that it has never ever ever ever been modified (translating is not modifying). What does that show you? Look at other religious books like the Torah and Qu'ran. You'll see that they've been appended to or had things removed several times. For some books its been well over 500 times they've been modified. The Bible is perfect because it is the inspired Word of God. Other religious books are made by men. Its easy to see this because the modifications they've taken on. The Bible has endured these centuries as original, other books have not. Simple.
There is no way to "interpret" what Genesis says about the beginning. You interpret it for what it says. If God says he did something on Day Five... then he did just that. There wasn't a one million year span between Day One and Day Two. It took him six, earth-measured days to create the world and he rested on the seventh. When people try to interpret that in a different way, they are bending God and the Bible to their own will. You cannot bend Him to a sinful will. Stop looking for truths from people corey, look for it in the Bible. Look at our basis for our belief because we;ve looked at yours.
I hope you come back to God or find Him if you haven't because when you die, God won't mercy on you. And saying you'll burn in hell is a major understatment. its much worse than any word that any language can describe or any story tell or any movie show.
