However, He informs us that these are not true believers: "And these things will they do to you, because they have not known the Father, nor me." (See also 1 John 3:15.)

The enemy tempted Jesus to jump off an edifice so that angels will be prompted to save him, and he will proof to everyone in this manner that he's the son of God. Jesus replied: the scriptures say, you shall not test the lord your God.

Also, I think 'JET' is meaningless in itself. The procedure in his "JET" is clearly testing the effectiveness of prayer, NOT Jesus' existence or who he is claimed to have been.

Another thing wrong is that the outcome of the procedure IMPLIES ONLY ONE CONCLUSION:
-The person will be harmed, hence, Jesus does/did not exist (which is an illogical inference)
and considers, but ILLOGICALLY DISMISSES another unlikely, although still possible outcome:
-The person is not harmed due to physical unlikeliness (ie mattress, rubber, pile of leaves, etc.)
-from which the subject may make the alternate conclusion: Jesus does exist and answered this prayer.

The problem with this test is that Christians are not suppose to test faith. Look at Thomas the doubter. He was skepetical of Jesus's ressurection, he needed proof and for that Christians damn him in hell. Christians are not suppose to beleive out of reason, only out of illogical faith. It is why Lazorith was ressurected out of faith, thus faith is the only thing that can save christians.

Faith seems to have a magical aura with christians but if you strip it down to its definition all it is is a trust that is often illogical. This is very unhealthy, not to mention the other habits christians have with awareness around them.

lurker. If faith is the process of believing something without proof or doubt, would it make sense for a religious person to test their own faith? A test is administered to obtain true information. If a person is already 100% sure of their beliefs, testing those beliefs would be meaningless. If a person were to begin testing their own beliefs, they would have doubt and hence the belief process would not be faith anymore.

lurker. If faith is the process of believing something without proof or doubt, would it make sense for a religious person to test their own faith? A test is administered to obtain true information. If a person is already 100% sure of their beliefs, testing those beliefs would be meaningless. If a person were to begin testing their own beliefs, they would have doubt and hence the belief process would not be faith anymore.

I'd say the objection was testing god himself, not testing faith in god. It was jesus' way of saying "Whatcha talkin' about Satan?"

Doubt or confusion is never a reason for going to hell. Many, many people doubted god yet are considered "hero's" of the faith. Outright rejection, which is an active process, is what get's you a one-way ticket to hell. You may be surprised to hear this, but I'm betting that many self-proclaimed "atheist's" will be in heaven. I have no idea exactly how it will all sort itself out, nor do I recommend that anyone sit that close to the fire lest they get burned - but I'm confident it will be this way.

Here's some verses on testing you faith.

2 Corinthians 13:5 "Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?"

You have a point, but you misunderstood and are distorting what is said.
Cal’s “JET” literally tests the effectiveness of prayer through observable action, and this IS scientific. This kind of testing fails to take into account the fact that Jesus warns his followers not to “test the Lord, your God.” That was Cal’s failure.

You can ponder your beliefs all you want, this isn’t putting them to scientific test which is what WITHTEETH and I were referring to.

Pondering, in the context of what you’ve said in regards to new knowledge is like you said: assuring yourself that it makes SENSE. This isn’t the “testing” Jesus was referring to in his story.

Science isn’t about sense, but what IS. Don’t equate your attempts to detect discrepancies in your belief system to that of scientific investigation.

There can be statistical tests of faith.

Look, for instance, at some 19th century studies for the health of the Queen of England and her family. The royal family is prayed for every day at Anglican Mass by millions of people. Nobody could find any statistical boost in the life expectancy of the royal family, despite all that prayer.

I'm sure we can find similar statistical test of faith that wouldn't require God being all pissy about being tested.
