Merkins 2016

Clinton v Perry ?
Quote:

Rick Perry, the gun-toting Bible-bashing Texan goveror announced yesterday that he was to retire from office next year, and there are signs that this failed Presidential candidate is once again eyeing up a run for the White House.

Rick Perry is in the unenviable position of having been a less attractive candidate than such charming and inspiring politicians as Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich and of course eventual loser Mitt Romney. But maybe this time Perry will prove that George W Bush is not the only Texan governor with a penchant for capital punishment who can make it on the national stage.
This might be rather more entertaining than I first thought!

Sadly, it is possible that he could make it all the way. As long as he pretends that some things didn't happen, the short term memory of the American public will not remember them.

I can't decide if Merkin politics is more depressing or disgusting. I fear our situation is pretty hopeless, though.

alwinwarrens 09-11-2013 04:27 AM

I guess its both depressing and disgusting in its own way.

Christian delusions are driving the GOP insane

Why aren't Republicans more frightened of a shutdown and a default?
Part of the reason is magical thinking.

Fucking nutjobs.

Davin 10-17-2013 07:26 AM

And they put on a huge stink about being called the "American Taliban"

Kinich Ahau 10-18-2013 07:22 AM

Here's another nut job example.

Yeah...just like some syphilis ridden ex-Army corporal went all the way from a prison cell to the office of Fuehrer und Reichskanzler.

Don't think it can't happen here. This is true for all candidates for public office, regardless of party affiliation or ideology. This means fact-checking, holding everyone accountable, publicising statements made by the candidate that reveal their true colours. It means looking at the record, remembering that what's past is prologue.

Above all else, don't elect a President who is prepared to scapegoat an entire group of people for the ills of a nation. It means electing a President who isn't going to go to war based on misinformation. It means electing a President who won't insist that those who oppose his warmongering lack patriotism. It means electing a President who won't turn an anomalous act of terrorism into an excuse to take away civil liberties or usurp power.

Sadly, power does tend to corrupt. I suspect that after four years in power, even the best politician will become a scumbag.

Davin 04-02-2014 12:19 PM

Probably good advice, but sadly, even Hitler has a chance to make it through the GOP gauntlet to be their candidate.

Anti minority: check.
Blames minorities for the economy: check.
Anti communism: check.
Pro war: check.
Religious: check.
Extreme: check.
Overly judgmental about other peoples "patriotism": check.
...
etc.

What America needs is a good dictator like Saddam Hussein. The current crop of "elected representatives" are a bunch of treasonous sociopaths who, in spite of swearing an oath to uphold the constitution, instead of governing, are obstructing and blocking the functioning of government. That is Treason. The lot of them should be hanged.
