Does this debunk scientific explanations for Near Death Experiences?
 

Many scientists claim NDEs occur due to lack of oxygen in the brain, and hypoxia. However, this article has sources which challenge this.

I have also seen studies where patients who had NDEs had just as much oxygen as others who did not have life threatening problems. It seems to suggest that oxygen cannot be the answer. Oxygen deprivation seems to create weird hallucinations sometimes which are scary and painful.

Also, most of the time, people who have a lack of oxygen barely have any oxygen loss and they still report these same experiences. People don't even have to be near death to have them. Does this article prove NDEs are true?

I know this user is just JAQing off by posing stupid questions and then leaving, but why don't people who almost get shot get NDEs? If a bullet missed their head by 2", I would think that is pretty close to death.

I had an NDE experience. As a foolish adolescent, tried to impress by holding my breath and doing a record underwater swim. Had the usual dark tunnel with the bright white light in the distance.
Obviously an oxygen starved brain. Luckily, a friend noticed my cessation of swimming, and pulled me out from a near drowning.
Needless to say, I am since sceptical of NDE's as evidence of an afterlife.

Lack of oxygen IS hypoxia numbnuts, there is no "lack of oxygen and hypoxia."


"Had" as is were administered or "had" as in had in their system when it was measured because these are two very different things.

I'm sorry, what now?! The physiology of oxygen delivery, uptake, transport and end-organ delivery all disagree with you.

I think what you're trying to get at is you don't need to be "nearly about to die" in order to have weird, difficult to explain experiences. That is about the only sensible thing I can surmise from your post.

There are many medications and street drugs that produce unusual hallucinatory / dissociative experiences. This however only makes them as real as it is for the person experiencing them.

Amongst the above mishmash of contradictory statements and half-baked conclusions I smell a more interesting question at the heart of all of this; is any experience really "true?" That is to say to what extent does our experience of the world reflect how the world really is and how do we know this to be so?
