This will occur with free radicals and a concurrent increase in the apparent intensity
due to the availability of free electrons for XXq
formation. However, in Fig. 2 the long time curves are
essentially parallel, meaning that the lifetime is unchanged
by high densities, and the effect at high XXq densities is
to decrease the apparent XXq intensity. Furthermore, we do
not believe alien-spur interactions to be significant, since
the spur lifetime is typically around 10 ps while the qX
pulse is 2000 times longer, and the spur radius is of the
order of 10 m, which means that the probability of a
positron–alien-spur interaction is less than 103.
