I have heard Christians bitch about this time and time. They say he was a Zionist and Jewish blah blah blah, but I haven't seen any evidence of this. More actually the other way around. I have found his own personal quotes from letters saying that he was in fact, an atheist ... I'm just starting to get pissy with all the idiots floating around the new site I'm frequenting.

stupid bitch from website:
"The fact that Albert Einstein's faith waivered, or that he expressed the fact that he did not believe in G-d in this letter, did not make him any less of a Jew.
I myself did not believe in G-d until I was in my early twenties. That did not make me any less of a Jew. Certainly, whether he believed in G-d or not, it did not make him any less of a Jew in the eyes of the Nazis, now did it?
I think your organization should stop using Einstein, and any dead person who has not stated that he or she is an atheist, for its political ends. It's really shameful."

IT'S GOD GOD GOD, GOD DAMN IT. Stop being such a pussy about it, fucking Jesus-lickers.
And no, he wasn't an atheist, but he wasn't a follower of any religion either. He was like a Deist.

He would have been an atheist today. He died before the Big Bang Theory came along. He still had too much God in the Gaps stuff going on. I would classify him as agnostic though.

If it's a Jesus-licker writing that, they're emulating the orthodox Jews, who find it blasphemous to even write god's name. Here's the obligatory wiki article on the subject.

Does it even matter if Einstein was an Atheist or not.
He is credited with bring about a theory that contended with the notion of a god WHICH has now been proven to be FACT.
So, basically....He rules. even if he believed it God, he would have realized how much of a hypocrite he was being by doing so and desist.

He was offered the office of president of Israel but turned it down. He certainly wasn't a zionist. Perhaps he should have taken the job. He would have done a good job, in my opinion.

Based on what? Tensor calculus doesn't come up much in cabinet meetings

Because he was a genius. Look at Bush, he can barely speak English properly. Intelligent people tend to contemplate all options more thorouogly whether they agree with them or not. Scientists in particular are looking to prove their theories incorrect. I would rather have a scientist in office than a career politician. I doubt Bush tried to prove wrong (or listened to those who could) his policy in Iraq. There was a report released lately by CIA (I think) that was written before the war and it stated the probably outcome on an invasion of Iraq. It is dead on! The Bush Administration has a history of dismissing anyone who disagrees with them. Perhaps they shouldn't have. Einstein would have considered all options and all opinions on the matter instead of following a particular ideology on the subject matter.

HE was a genius at theoretical physics. He was terrible with personal finances (and hygeine according to some). He was very absent minded (the prototype absent minded professor) and wasn't very good at remembering names and such. Also he was a pacifist which might not have served Israel well at that time. Being a good scientist is no qualification for politics at all.

Einstein was a terrible student, therefore it is impossible for him to be a "genius."
If anyone should know that it is you, myst.

Being a good politician gets you into office but doesn't mean you will run the country very well.
