The Dublin Horror Show - A Roman Catholic Hell

Now the Report is available the revelations of priests above the law, a photo of a victim collapsing in extreme distress at the memories from his childhood, and the incandescent fury of the victims and those who now know what has happened, must surely lead to the damning of this grisly power mad outfit in Ireland. A priest, shielded and supported, while he continues to sexually abuse a pathetic stream of 100 victims. And this, and the point is vital, is only Dublin - one city in Ireland. What about the rest of the country - indeed any countries where these paedo perverts are able to satisfy there grisly lusts.

The following comes from the excellent Freethinker site in the UK but before you read the report I warn you - you had better have a strong stomach. Because this stuff is gut churning.

THE Roman Catholic archdiocese of Dublin “obsessively” covered up widespread sexual abuse of children by priests until the mid-1990s in a misuse of the Church’s central role in Irish society, an official report said today.
The government-commissioned inquiry into abuse in the Irish capital from 1975 to 2004, which came six months after a similarly damning report about Church-run industrial and reform schools, also accused state officials of abetting the cover-up, according to this report.

"....an archbishop defended one case by saying it arose merely from a priest's "'wonderment' about the female anatomy."

What's the chances the archbishops were child sex predators themselves when they were priests? The junior members would sniff the finger while kissing the ring & know they would be safe.
Of course not recruited by the celibate church because they were too weird to have adult relationships. & not because single men are cheaper to support than married ones

I have family in Dublin.

They tell me that these bastards took out liability insurance in 1997 precisely for this day. You cannot make this up!

The shit is really starting to get flung - and after an inquiry in just one diocese;

The Twatican is obviously in deeper shit than usual.

The inquiry into sex abuse by Catholic priests in Ireland has disclosed that the Vatican ignored formal requests for information.
Of course, everything will be alright coz we sayz how sorry we iz. Creepy, toadying wankers.
But of course, the Catholic church really is a force for good in the world - innit?

Stop the Holy See men!

I heard the apology from - or on behalf of - one of the four archbishops. "We are really sorry and send our sincere apologies to the families of all who were abused. This should have been investigated and taken far more seriously."

This is worse than keeping his mouth shut. The implication being, "Right I have apologised, now that's that, let's forget it and move on."

The Vatican did not take part in the investgation or enquiries. Something to do with "not going through the proper channels."

That "wonderment" defence would repay some investigation. I doubt whether the "wonderment" was some clinical interest. We live in an age surrounded by pornography and, I assume, even a priest might access this. The "wonderment" must have gone beyond looking or reading to penetration. The real killer to this argument is that the outrage arises not from adult relationships but from child sexual abuse.

Broga, what do you expect from liars who live in what amounts to a foreign embassy? The paedo ring expects the authorities to go through diplomatic channels before discussing access to documents concerning their abuse of Irish children. Every approach by the judiciary was ignored by the vatican.
As my mum would say they are all in it together.

I'm really curious as to how far back this abuse goes. I find it hard to believe it just started happening recently. I'm guessing this kind of stuff's happened all throughout history (we can only guess how many hundreds/thousands of children suffered as a result). I really, really hope something is done by the secular authorities (since the religious don't really seem that inclined).

Religion - it gives people hope in a world torn apart by religion.

My mum says much the same: "They are all as bad as each other."

It is worse than that. It has indeed happened throughout history. Why I say it is worse is that it continues. Particularly in the paedophile honeypots of the Far East.

An interesting aspect of Holy Roman Jeetardism unearthed in this debacle is the notion of “mental reservation” -- a nice loophole which allows priests and associated churchmen to lie with impunity. It explains a lot of bullshit and straight-up lying we read in these very forums.

Cardinal Desmond Connell:

Quote:
“Well, the general teaching about mental reservation is that you are not permitted to tell a lie. On the other hand, you may be put in a position where you have to answer, and there may be circumstances in which you can use an ambiguous expression realising that the person who you are talking to will accept an untrue version of whatever it may be – permitting that to happen, not willing that it happened, that would be lying. It really is a matter of trying to deal with extraordinarily difficult matters that may arise in social relations where people may ask questions that you simply cannot answer. Everybody knows that this kind of thing is liable to happen. So mental reservation is, in a sense, a way of answering without lying.”
"I did not have sex with that woman, Ms Lewinsky" is therefore a true statement, if Bill Clinton mentally reserves the coda "... on Guy Fawkes Day."

Who could have predicted that an organization purporting to be the moral arbiter of the world would devise a childishly idiotic way to lie its ass off whenever it suits their sordid purposes? Mental reservation! I can't imagine that this monstrous criminal ring can survive as (true) information becomes more and more available to the hoi polloi.

I generally trust people are telling the truth until proven otherwise, but maybe the default when dealing with Catholics should be to assume they are bullshitting, especially when their self-interests are involved.

that would certainly explain lily...

One of the most irrational of all the conventions of modern society is the one to the effect that religious opinions should be respected....That they should have this immunity is an outrage. There is nothing in religious ideas, as a class, to lift them above other ideas. On the contrary, they are always dubious and often quite silly.

Philboid Studge. Mental reservation! This is clearly a means of lying while attempting to satisfy a conscience that never existed in the first place. Not much chance of their insistence on truth or, in its more political version, "transparency" counting for much. What about their omniscient god: is he such a dumbfuck that he cannot see through a bit of "mental reservation." Tony "The Phony" Blair - a leading light in the RC firmament - has clearly been excercising "mental reservation" beyond what even his RC inspired standards can bear. Five days in to the Iraq (Chilcott Inquiry) and already even the polite types appearing there have been lining up to expose Blair as a liar. Sorry - excercising "mental reservation." The result of Chilcott's Inquiry is already going to be judged on its success or failure by one criterion: Success: Blair comes before a Criminal Court. Failure: Blair lies his way out of his culpability yet again.

There is something missing on this thread. Just occurred to me that the exchanges here have been much less fretful than might have been expected. No defence for the Roman Catholic child abusers, their Archbishops, the Pope and, in the UK, a total closed shop on the mind numbing religious sludge we get on the daily Thought for the Day - banned to "those not of the faith" but open to every bigotted religious fuckwit in the country. On Thought for the Day the religious wagons have circled: still telling the rest of us what we should do: not a mention of the Dublin Horror Show.

And here, no Lily. She should have been all over us like a rash to defend the indefensible. Looks like on this one she is broken, no defence available, facts against overwhelming. Next step: Lily's confession and apology to us all: "Sorry, you were right. I am wrong. And I am now returning to the freedom of rational and atheistic thought."
