Fucking miserable Yids
Quote:
It is the time of the year when school is out for Israel's ultraorthodox students. But this year, a Jewish morality police is patrolling in force to make sure they do not have too much fun.
Leading rabbis and heads of religious colleges, or the yeshivas, have warned students to continue their studies of the Torah, dress appropriately and avoid "the great danger, spiritually and concretely, of hitchhiking". The ultraorthodox, who make up roughly 10 per cent of all Israelis, live a closeted life. They voluntarily choose not to own a television or radio, and are barred from using the internet.

Likely. Utah leads the US in internet porn consumption. I hear it goes even higher during Mormon conventions. Surely it's only a coincidence.

My dear Sterny, I'm just saying that it seems like almost every thread now is devolving into Cal vs. __________ back-and-forths. And it's a free forum, but I'd very much like to at least protect our "Sticky" threads from being dragged into that too.

You're free to do as you choose. My suggestion would be to simply ignore him in this and similar threads. (Quote thread, random youtube thread, etc.)
My other suggestion would be for Cal to keep the batshit to a minimum, but I'm not sure that's going to happen.

The local ski shop unlocked its doors special for me so I could buy boots for my ancient cross country skis. They opened special so I could make said purchase before I got me to the Nunnery. So if and when I return from said Nunnery after a year, and should there be snow the ensuing snowy season, I shall learn how to ski. Yay! I'm so excited for next next winter!

Is this Nunnery frequently camouflaged and does it often entail the projection of supernaturally powerful explosions? That is, is new tour an extension of the prior 18-month stint that we all have waited so patiently to end so you can rejoin apathetic civilian-hood? Will you be able to continue your participation here in the forum? Details?

Yes.

No, actually that prior 666-day tour (that's the number they came up with ) ended and this is a whole new year's worth of adventure. Because we all know it's not just a job.

That is in question at the moment, however, I see an air card and satellite subscriptions in my future.

BINGO
I am happy not to have to "ignore" anyone. This way, if the Clapper has something constructive and relevant to say in some active thread, I will not miss it by having him turned off. That would be a banner day, when/if he did have a contribution.

Several times in these threads it has been said that atheists are closed-minded in general and that nothing can change their outlook on things.
I have said, without details, that I have indeed changed my mind about deeply held notions because of compelling evidence. I just had another and I would like to put it on record that I do follow the evidence wherever it leads (only to the extent that it is verified or otherwise reliable, of course).
Along with many of you, I am sure, I knew that there was a conceptual problem, almost a paradox, in the wave-particle duality of the Photon.
It seemed that it was a particle when you measured particle properties and a wave when you measured wave properties; that its character changed depending on the state of mind of the observer. Several people, denizens of woo-woo-land, have even used this duality to support their belief in the mind-body duality and their contention that we mentally make reality be what we think it is or even what we want it to be.
I just read Victor Stenger's new book, "The New Atheism", in which he explains that individual Photons are particles and, when you fire a huge number of them at a target, each one of them takes a random course whose distribution function is statistically wave-like, with frequency, wave-length etc.
So, there is no conflict with the Photon contributing to a wave action just like a molecule of seawater has a particle nature and it contributes to a sea wave.
So we can explain the mind-brain duality as simply the physical individual neurons interacting in a mindlike pattern (distribution) when tens of hundreds of thousands of them act together.
This is a good thing. It has the dual* advantages of clarity and parsimony.
Ah hayev seen delight!!!
