America's true history
Quote:
From the earliest arrival of Europeans on America’s shores, religion has often been a cudgel, used to discriminate, suppress and even kill the foreign, the “heretic” and the “unbeliever”—including the “heathen” natives already here. Moreover, while it is true that the vast majority of early-generation Americans were Christian, the pitched battles between various Protestant sects and, more explosively, between Protestants and Catholics, present an unavoidable contradiction to the widely held notion that America is a “Christian nation.”

I kinda feel out of place on this board, but I like this thread.
A few nights ago, I found myself sitting next to one of my sisters listening to really good Arabic music and watching some arab ladies get down. Just minutes before, they had walked in, in full ninja gear, and were now shaking their hips in outfits that would make Snookie envious. She nodded over at a beautiful Banglasdeshi girl and said "Look at her...she is such a good Muslim! Every single one of them in that family, so devout, from the boys to the girls, the grandmother down. And they all are so successful and educated. How? How do they do it?" There was such longing in her voice that echoed what I had desired for so many years myself that I couldn't really respond. It put me in a weird funk the rest of the night, just very disturbed. I couldn't shake it off and it wasn't until well into the morning that I thought of replacing Allah with Santa Claus. Then it became comical. All the time I spent trying to increase my 'imaan' I was really trying to find ways to kill that part of me that refused to accept bullshit as an answer. Religion is really addictive, comedy is the antidote.

Right! Ridicule and satire and irreverence are all effective tools for breaking the hold that religion has on so many otherwise good people.

Gratias tibi ago ( thanks ) but unfortunately 80% of Americans are touched by my postulated ( give it any name you want) Christ-psychosis, so this would be an extremely difficult task. It would be our only salvation from this GdBelief insanity that could make us extinct. For this reason I persist that faith ought to be classified as another waco disorder similar to the nuts in mental institutions thought mild by comparison unless it becomes full blown.
As an educated atheist you know very well how insane those folks are. Here is a 2005 world map of Religious Followers ( FaithPsychotics IMHO). I didn't know in ChristPsychosis infected South America there was a sane nation, Uruguay.
I like to get an update on this map & see if there is any hope.
As you can see we atheists are in the extreme extreme minority, & those who see religious insanity as a mental disorder are in the extremely extreme minority of minorities..*sigh*..at least Bill Maher sees religion as a neurological disorder too at least he is famous.
Undertaking is not the word, if I only could enroll Bill Gates..the Vatican, City of Nuts Jerusalem & Mecca would have to sell their wares to defend agains the onslaught of reason & reality accompanied by neurologists that I'd bring.
Close the Gates, Calp is coming wanting to transform our cities, palaces into Sanatoriums & museums...
Christians and other folks infected with delusional beliefs think and reason like schizophrenics or temporal lobe epileptics. Their morality is dictated by an invisible friend called Jesus.

Thanks to his work on diminishing intervals, we can miss him by arbitrarily close approximations, but miss him, we must.

Fuck, this woman is dense.
O'Donnell displays her ignorance of Constitutional Law
The only thing about this article that I liked was its mention that she trails badly in the polls. She is a teabaggers wet dream though.

I like how they backpedaled after the debate, claiming that she was simply saying that the phrase is not mentioned in the Constitution (no shit!).
Of course, how do you explain all her other comments that followed that contradict that this was her intent?

I sincerely hope this is the case for all the teabaggers that won the Republican nominations: enough rightwingnut backing to win the GOP, but too extreme to win the election.

Also, it looks similar to a woman.
