but this is a kinda cool dead guy.
and he was brit.
One of the most irrational of all the conventions of modern society is the one to the effect that religious opinions should be respected....That they should have this immunity is an outrage. There is nothing in religious ideas, as a class, to lift them above other ideas. On the contrary, they are always dubious and often quite silly.

thanks for the welcome btw I have plopped a post into your intro section..............Yes I know he was a brit.
Its not something 'celebrated' here (that I'm aware of)
I don't know....to me it seems awfully needy....to need this? I think to invent something 'just because' it runs counter to christianity is buying into that whole thing. I'm not a xian at all. To me the idea of being 'atheist' is being without that thing people call a religious belief - that to me includes not having to participate in these kinds of rituals or celebrations.
I've always had a few queries in the way the 'atheist' behave online?.....I'm a loner generally

I always find it amusing when theist harrass me because I haven't read Darwin's original manuscripts. Why should I? It's not some holy writ that reveals truth. Reading modern science gives me a modern understanding.
Addmittedly, reading the original Darwin would allow me to show them that even he had a better understanding of the processes than they do, plus the passages I have seen quoted are quite expressive. (I did see Stern's reccommendation in the books thread).

THe original is actually quite a good read, I think.
Plus the dude had mad art skilz.

Getting back to the topic . I don't care what anybody does, or who they choose to celebrate/ worship. I've had a gutfull of xmas and all the other 'hallmark' shit. Dawin? I think its a wank mostly because I don't live in a religiously enculturalerated nation such as yours..........thankfuckingchrist for that too.

I knew if I stuck around here long enough, I'd get to meet up with a self-professed atheist whose sole purpose for being here is to poke sticks at the heathens.
If you're a loner, Pussy, why are you here? I mean, it's OK if you like being solitary, but the fact that you're here at all kind of belies that assertion. Would you like us to join you in your solitude, you know, a whole solitary misery-loves-company kinda deal? Is that what you're after? Well, if we were alone with you then we couldn't be alone, could we?

When did recognizing the birthday of an immensely influential person get equated with worshipping?
That's just retarded.

Whats the problem?
A bit of self reflection isn't out of order is it? Do you expect 'everyone' at this little neck of the woods to be exactly the same? Wear a uniform? You'd think so wouldn't you.
For fuck sake...look around you? Are you alone at your computer or what? Get real mate.

How about opening up your mind a wee bit...see for your self....
look at the way politicians today are being 'worshipped' - look at the Obama campaigne in the States.
