Yeah, the way things seem to be going...the rethuglicans want to do away w/ the Post Office, the EPA, public education, publicly funded research...if they have their way it looks like Victus' ideal society may be realized here in Merkinland. We'll have corporations running everything, it'll be just great...I keep thinking of Oryx and Crake.

MORE debates ??

I guess (in theory) that isn't a bad thing. I haven't actually sat down to watch a debate, so I can't complain too loudly about their frequency. But what is Fox News' motivation here? Is it just because the ratings for these clown shows have been high (they have-love this headline). Or do they think it's a way to get their would-be champion more free exposure? If the latter, I have to wonder, because each debate seems to reveal the ugly truth about the field: very, very weak.

It's not only Fox News. CNN has hosted at least two of these train wrecks.

I think it's all about giving the Republicans more opportunities to find a viable candidate that is not Romney. So far, no matter what nutbag they've thrown out there, Romney remains among the leaders, while the crazies (Bachman, Perry, Cain) peak, and then fade fast.

Can you imagine how hard of a collective boner the GOP would get if someone like Christie would change his mind and jump in?

The other libertarian, what's-his-name, didn't show up for the recent dog-and-krazy show, but he reviews his colleagues' perfomance here (I'm probably not the only one who didn't realize he was missing):

I was totally embarrassed- completely embarrassed by the lack of seriousness, the lack of focus on the issues that really matter to the American people- issues about reviving our economy and addressing joblessness were given short shrift. Our role in the world and securing our position of pre-eminence were given short-shrift. It was more game-show-like than anything else.

The only contest she won was the one she essentially bribed people to vote for her (and even then, the return on her money was only 66%).

I never thought she really stood a chance, but stranger things have happened.

He's not a libertarian - maybe you're thinking of Gary Johnson.

I posted this elsewhere, but I thought I might as well post it here as well.

Tea-Baggers urging business owners to stop hiring people.

Quote:
Tea Party Nation wrote
Resolved that: The current administration and Democrat majority in the Senate, in conjunction with Progressive socialists from all around the country, especially those from Hollywood and the left leaning news media (Indeed, most of the news media.) have worked in unison to advance an anti-business, an anti-free market, and an anti-capitalist (anti-individual rights and property ownership) agenda. [...]

I, an American small business owner, part of the class that produces the vast majority of real, wealth producing jobs in this country, hereby resolve that I will not hire a single person until this war against business and my country is stopped.

Wait just a minute-You expect me to believe-That all this misbehaving-Grew from one enchanted tree? And helpless to fight it-We should all be satisfied-With this magical explanation-For why the living die-And why it's hard to be a decent human being - David Bazan

Nevermind. I see Phil was referring to Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman.

But I wonder why this libertarian/Republican website was promoting Huntsman as one of the tribe?

I don't see where they call him a libertarian. He describes himself as center-right, and that seems to be consistent with his past and advertized policies.

Yes I thought Cuntsman was a libertarian ... my bad, I guess. They all look alike to me. But Google "huntsman libertarian" and you'll see I'm not alone....

Quote:
As Utah’s governor, Huntsman flattened the state’s taxes, reformed Utah’s odd alcohol laws, defended gun rights, and expanded health coverage without a dreaded individual mandate. He also supports voucherizing Medicare. This policy portfolio caused Jason Sorens at Pileus to ponder whether he is a “no-label libertarian” and garnered a surprisingly positive write-up in The American Conservative. The combination of his foreign policy experience with a less-interventionist philosophy is appealing, as his straight-talk on scientific questions. But does this mean libertarian-leaning folk who reject Ron Paul and Gary Johnson should give Huntsman another look?
The Cato dingleberries gave him a 'B' for his record as governor of Bring 'em Young, if that means anything.

Newspaper Breaking News: Alabama Republicans Are Racist !

Quote:
A federal judge accused two state Republicans, called by federal prosecutors in a massive Alabama corruption case, of cooperating with the feds because of their “ulterior motives rooted in naked political ambition and pure racial bias.”
Government eavesdropping picked up this tidbit from the goobers:
Quote:
“Just keep in mind if [a pro-gambling] bill passes and we have a referendum in November, every black in this state will be bused to the polls. And that ain’t gonna help.”
That quote certainly reflects racism, but it also sounds like a pragmatic, political calculation.

yes, sounds racist.....but....why comment on the quote sounding like a pragmatic, political calculation? what do you have in mind?

One of the most irrational of all the conventions of modern society is the one to the effect that religious opinions should be respected....That they should have this immunity is an outrage. There is nothing in religious ideas, as a class, to lift them above other ideas. On the contrary, they are always dubious and often quite silly.
