Hi, disciple! I am happy to hear that you traded your addiction to drugs (?) for a less harmful (?) addiction to religion. If you have truly suffered from depression, I strongly suggest that you don't squander your new-found cheer by arguing with people. If your intention is to have your belief system torn to shreds, then you came to the right place. As a highly-moral secular humanist, I strongly suggest that you seek association with like-minded people who share your dogmatic beliefs. Find those who can commiserate with your situation. Why not find some Christmas program to participate in for the holidays?

Sound and beautiful advice.

Somethings in life, there are just not enough serious faces to really say what you mean.

Atheists tend to ridicule the religious beliefs of Christians because we have so many questions about what you believe and why you believe it but we never get any convincing answers. 'Convincing', meaning supported by logic, proper reasoning, and substantial evidence.

Also, I can tell you that it's safe to assume that 99% of the people on this forum are going to ridicule your religious beliefs in one way or another. If you don't want that you had better leave now, not to be rude or anything.
They need to feel persecuted so naturally, when we ridicule a ridiculous idea, they take it to be a personal assault and a hate speech issue.

An accurate and succinct summary. And they feel persecuted when they do us the favour, as they see it, of preaching at us and we challenge what they say. Their "logic" which they see as irrefutable rarely goes beyond quoting from their bible. And they are so, so boring. However, they do serve two functions: a. entertainment and b. as examples of the egregious nonsense filling the brains of the religious.

What is the precise species of fallacy employed by disciple? It sounds like a close cousin to argument from consequences -- "I was a depressed addict, but by surrendering to Jayzus my life is turned around. Argyle, God exists."

People glom onto woo cures for the same reason.

Anyway I think we can all agree that Jesus is for people who can't handle drugs.

I think it is the fallacious "logic" of post hoc ergo propter hoc i.e after the event therefore because of the event. This is essential thinking to back up miracles e.g. I prayed to Mother Theresa to cure my cancer; my cancer is cured; therefore Mother Theresa cured it. Therefore Mother Theresa should be a saint. What Mother Theresa does not do is replace an amputated limb.

I think it false attribution, giving credit for something that seems to work to the wrong cause.
