Both. I loved the protest in Salt Lake, but this is also - in my opinion - a justified attack. Let's shine a big light on their beliefs since they've chosen to inflict them on others.
I agree with this. It's very confrontational instead of merely sophomoric.

I think the gay rights movement needs a Malcolm X.
Hmm. I wonder about this. I give Malcolm an "A" for effort but, ultimately, it seems MLK's approach was a bit more effective. Perhaps, that was because Malcolm stood as an unpalatable alternative to MLK. Who knows?

Anyway, as the saying goes, there's more than one way to skin a cat.

If there is nothing to gain, why bother? Unless you think it has some kind of therapuetic value for the person doing the mocking, what's the point?
I think religious mockery has become a sub-genre of a literary form. "Anti-theism"? PZ Myers is a master of the craft. I derive pleasure from reading his smackdowns of god-gobblers. (The stunts, no so much.)

Ha ha.

Quote:
Cardinal Stafford said there had been a rise in incidents in which people would receive Communion and then spit it out or otherwise desecrate it, sometimes in Satanic rituals.

In July last year an American academic, to make a point about freedom of thought and religion, drove a nail through a Communion wafer and then threw it in a rubbish bin.

Paul Myers, from the University of Minnesota, said later: "I pierced it with a rusty nail. Then I simply threw it in the trash. Question everything. God is not great, Jesus is not your Lord."

Such sins, which can only be dealt with by the Pope, acting through the tribunal, bring automatic excommunication from the Church. If the Pope decides to grant absolution, the excommunication is lifted.

And there I thought sins could only be dealt with by God himself. Who knew the Pope was more than just a mouthpiece for Yahweh?

I'm sure PZ will be devastated if he gets ex-communicated from the Catholic Church, and will soon be begging for absolution.

On second thought, having never been a Catholic, he may not give a shit.

Pedantic point: Traditionally it's a wafer of unleavened bread. You can buy it in sheets from shops specialising in Maltese food, although I can't think of why you might want to;it tastes like cardboard.

Yes, you're right, BOF. That is pedantic.

The use of the term "cracker" is deliberate, and is used to ridicule Catholics. It sounds much funnier to say "It's just a cracker." than to say "It's just a wafer of unleavened bread."

they always tend to come in waves (I don't mean they masturbate at the beach, although with Aussies you never know....)

You can always turn tricks for a few extra bucks. If looks are an issue, there's the glory hole option, but don't expect more than ... tips.
