The Hockey Thread

This place needs a hockey thread, and this one is inspired by the Flyers beating the Hurricanes 6-5 in a shoot out after being down 5-1 after two periods.

I'm in Australia.

Sitting on my desk in front of me is a New York Rangers puck, given to me by my cousin, hall of fame inductee Murray "Muzz" Patrick.

Frank Patrick was my grandfather.

I have never seen a hockey game except on TV. Not a lot of ice hockey played in Australia

Yesterday I was offered tickets to the Winter Classic game at Wrigley Field on Jan 1 but I begged off. As I've said many times, I don't mind freezing my nuts off once in a while, but I wasn't up to traveling to Chicago on New Year's Eve. Plus I was offered only tickets to the game and would have to spring for airfare and hotel.

Petr Sykora with his first career hat trick after scoring two goals in a game 38 times previously as the Pens beat the Islanders 9-2!

Wow, really? Scott Hartnell apparently now has 9 hat tricks, he scored the first three for Philly and between that and some great hits and a fight he won the game.

Sykora's had a great career, it really is amazing he's never been able to pull it off before. Pascal Dupuis also popped his hat trick cherry last night.

Normally, I'd be all over this thread, but with the season the Stars are having right now (dead-last in the West), I have absolutely nothing to brag about.

What the fuck happened to the team that made it to the Western Conference Finals last season?

There is a pond in my hometown, two miles around, where we used to play. There was even a curling tourney one year. It hasn't frozen over in ten years.

The second time I dropped acid was here, during a glorious snowfall. Then I went to see Superman (the first one, with Christopher Reeve) and I didn't understand it.
