Access, Lily, access.

Forty-seven million American citizens don't have access to this wonderful health care that is second to none.

Of course, if you're a chattering elite who already has the access, this may not be all that relevant to you.

So, if this ranking was so flawed, why did you bring it up?

Is it because you didn't catch the US ranking until later (37th, by the way), and are backpedaling now?

I'm curious, by the way: On what do you base your assertion that our health care system is "second to none"?

Also, you accuse Waddlie and ILJ of not knowing any better, having only been exposed to one type of system.
To what other systems have you been exposed, Lily?

Pre-natal care; birth; post-natal care; multiple x-rays on my head after some blind girl aged 10 ran into me and knocked me out; two lots of surgery, x-rays, 3 nights in hospital and 6 months physiotherapy after an accident aged 12; a referral to a consultant dermatologist and some jolly pricey treatment to treat a nasty case of teenage acne; some other nastiness requiring surgery that you don't want me to go into; dental care until I was an adult.

All free, all flawless. For every hysterical Daily Mail rantathon, I can give you a thousand people just like me who know nothing of the "endemic bone-headed mistakes" you keep bleating about.

If the NHS is so bad, why aren't we clamouring to opt for another model?
Because you don't know any better and because you have been infantilized as a nation to expect your care for free. Of course much of what you get is reasonably good care. But you are kidding yourself about "hysterical Daily Mail rants". The statistics are staggering. You blow them off because you don't know any better. We do.

Why aren't you clamoring for another model? You don't have it in you to demand anything. You were once a free people. Now you are a bunch of passive .... waiting to be told what to do.

And yet they all have access to quality, affordable health care when 47 million of our citizens don't, and untold millions more are a layoff or catastrophic illness away from not having that access, either.

Of course, those people in our country are free to die in the emergency rooms of America after succumbing to illnesses that could have been treated earlier if only they'd had access to quality, affordable health care, right?

I brought it up because the NHS was beaten on every measure WHO used by 17 other socialized systems! How much more obvious can it be?

Bullshit. It isn't nearly that high, since that figure includes 10-15 million illegal aliens, some millions of people who don't want to buy insurance, people between jobs, etc. The 20 or so million left can be covered faster, cheaper and more efficiently by vouchers, allowing competition among insurers so that people can buy across state lines, tort reform would bring the price down and on and on it goes.

I haven't seen any of you teabaggers clamoring for tort reform or any of the other johnny-come-lately fixes you claim to be advocating now.

Where the fuck were you over the past 8 years when you had the ear of a president and a Congress that were supposed to be at your service? Hmm?

Of course, you could not give a fuck about those who don't have access to our "second-to-none, best-in-the-world" quality health care, as long as you have access.

She's already made the claim that it is an unfairly weighted survey designed to "reward" socialized medicine.

I have an American friend who is very keen to sell up & retire back home to Florida, but who has been refused health insurance for him & his wife. He is now pretty much resigned to staying in our commie paradise where he knows they will be well looked after till we kill them. Good job too, excellent chap.

thank goodness he's on our side

Apparently the NHS is shit because it is only 18th. The American system is not shit even though it is 37th. The reason for this disparity is because the system was biased in favour of socialised medicine, an explanation which is in no way thoroughly buttfucked by Cuba coming in 39th...
