As a weak atheist (with 2000+ posts) I take offense to this. I may be the only one at the boards, but I refuse to be discriminated against! (though Phil might fall into the weak atheist camp)

Actually, as a donor, and having the ability to change my user title myself, I don't really care what they're set at.

Well, this was resolved before by just letting people change their titles. I understand you don't want to do that, so... hmm.

Go with a synonym for member? Let me get my thesaurus:

appendage, extremity, penis, phallus.

How about you go from an appendage on up to finally become a phallus? Or is that too sexist, maybe a bit Freudy?

Okay, next idea. Maybe science terms?

Solute (few posts)
Solvent (more posts)

...all I can come up with, but feel free to steal that idea.

We don't want to insult people, do we? I like Irreligious's best so far:

Chris - is your reluctance to let people change their own user titles down to the fact that it's a privilege only so far offered to those who have donamatated? If no money had changed hands would you be happier for us to back to the old system? I'm not complaining/criticising, just wondering why we can't go back to the old days...

Here’s an idea, rather than have user titles based on post counts, have a user select on the edit profile page that allows members to choose options such as “Atheist, Agnostic, Theist…etc.” You could even include qualifiers like “Hard, Weak, Militant, and Fundamentalist”. You could also include an option like “other” or “member” for people who don’t want to label themselves.” And, of course, you could still honor donators by giving them the option to set their own tag.

Personally, I don’t feel the current system offers any real meaning to our profiles. If you can see the date the person joined and their post count, then labeling them as “Junior, Senior, and Obsessed” seems a little redundant. Using my proposed system will give readers more information on where each member is coming from in terms of belief or non-belief.

Don'tget me wrong, I'm down for doctoring it up too. But, apparently, Chris wants "serious". So thats my suggestion. If you wanna doctor it, give her some fuckin' loot, cheep-o. (Enter appropriate goofy smiley face I no longer know how to enter).

Another idea would be to replace the text with graphics... perhaps little red A's? You know, one A for newbies, and more of them for senior members.

Donators should get custom titles as well as the A's. Or however they choose, I guess, if that can be sorted out.

For what it's worth, I think that's a great idea. If it can be implemented without too much difficulty, the only thing left would be to decide which options make sense.

Would it also be possible to do this anyway? Have, for instance, one field for strong/weak atheist/agnostic etc. and another for a custom title, which would be reserved for donaters.
