Its Been 10 Years Old Friends

Hello Friends,

My old handle was WITHTEETH. I was here back in the day of Ghoulslime's pilgrimage and when Sam Harris was interviewed here. Since then I've graduated from a university where I studied philosophy, psychology, and classic literature. My main philosophical influences are Thomas Reid, William James, and Wittgenstein. There are others of course but these are the most relevant. My specialty in philosophy are Philosophy of Mind and Ancient philosophy, but I've got a general feel for all fields. I was suppose to go to grad school but my health failed me. Maybe I talk about that some other time but this isn't really the place for it.

One interesting thing I've learned is the turbulent, turbid waters of metaphysics: Problems of freewill and determinism, if there is something to be called a god out there, is there a mind? What is consciousness? I find I'm not so certain about these issues as I once was and have taken a pragmatic stance on these interminable questions. That is, I decide based on the consequence of there beliefs, not on their proof since proof is on both sides of the aisle. One important thing I've learned are the limits of science. I plan on being the devil's advocate for the sake of arguments on some issues for the sake of debate. Hopefully I have the patience to do it by way of the elenchus.

Is Rhinoqulous still on here? I miss that guy.

Ahh, re-greetings, I do recall you being around in the early days when I first signed up - welcome back!
Personally, I find much of the deep philosophical bumf as boring as shit, but don't let me stop you from diving into stuff that others may be keen to explore - but surely the burden of proof always lies with the claimant?
Rhino & many of the ol' timers may not be on here, but are still around & contactable if you pay me enough!

Much of the abuse & mockery we unleashed in the early days has now become commonplace, with an abundance of sites now heaping deserved piss-taking on passing god-wallopers. Many of us ol' timers still meet up from time to time (in real life!) and hang around on Facebook where even Choobus occasionally drops by and reminds us what abuse really is! Most jesus-junkies keep well away from here - we have one contained trolling fuckwit, but he/she/it has far outlived any welcome and offers nothing resembling interesting.

Hello! I check in from time to time. I was busy working on my house for a few months.

But yeah, even though the vitriol is popular now, part of me thinks that our version of it was superior to the empty name calling that is common now. I felt like our hate was at least founded most of the time. Maybe I'm just an old man now who doesn't get the kids these days.

Always question all authorities because the authority you don't question is the most dangerous... except me, never question me.
