Taxing the church

Apparently, even the Jesus people want the Church taxed.

http://allchristiannews.com/preacher...hes-pay-taxes/

There's even a Christian website called PimpPreacher.com (not a porn site, despite the domain name - it's all worksafe, I promise) that exposes these people and publicly denounces their greed.

I guess that the Church will be taxed after all. About bloody time, too.

Saying that atheists hate God is like saying that teetotalers are alcoholics.

i definitely think that all churches should not be tax-exempt.

however, this seems only to pertain to the small churches with a whole bunch of wealth.

while it will help a little bit, i dont think it pertains to the overwhelming percentage of churches ?

the more i think about this, the more i think there is something phony about the story.

most churches are about making money.

but they do so, cuz they are pretty smart.

i find it somewhat unbelievable that some pastor is gonna flaunt some expensive car, etc.

the tax guy is the least of his problems.

he has to be mostly concerned with his parishioners.

just how long would they stay after seeing this ?

things on the net are seldom what they appear to be. and i dont think this is any exception.

i am not much for govt or taxes, to begin with.

but churches should not be excluded. it is an individual's choice to go to a church or not.

non-church-goers should not be subsidizing church-goers.

but no doubt many politicians receive handsome donations from churches to continue to look the other way.

So the big churches with a whole lot of wealth should be tax exempt?

I'm against taxing churches in general for the reason that part of the deal created by the First Amendment was basically "You churches stay out of politics and we government types won't tax you". The current idea that a church should lose its tax-exempt status if it decides to play politics (a lot of them do that already) is admittedly not the most effective. But taxing all churches would require an amendment to the First Amendment, and then we will be arguing about what is left of the First Amendment, at least as it relates to religion. Can we at least wait until a majority of the justices of the SCOTUS aren't loopy-brained idiots?

The churches are not staying out of politics.

from the wiki

The First Amendment (Amendment I) to the United States Constitution prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble or prohibiting the petitioning for a governmental redress of grievances. It was adopted on December 15, 1791, as one of the ten amendments that constitute the Bill of Rights.

we are not taxing the church. property taxes are levied on real estate.

if people want to ESTABLISH a religion, no problem.

when that includes using real property that would otherwise be part of the property tax structure, then it should be taxed.

and as far as i am concerned, income should be taxed, as well.

personally, i would get rid of most govt, and therefore most income and property tax, making it a moot issue.

but as long as we tax one, we tax another.

people are free to believe whatever they want to believe. they are free to practice these beliefs with others who choose to.

but when a business is established, using real estate, accepting "donations", etc. then then that goes beyond practice of religion.

it is a business like any other business.

i keep preaching the same thing - PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY.

we should not expect someone else to pay for things that we use, or to fix the problems that we create.

we should not cause harm (financial, emotional, life-threatening, etc.) to someone else for the actions that we make.

another way of thinking about it is that our "right" to do something comes into question when it starts interfering with the "rights" of others.

our society is growing more and more socialistic.

and that breeds the idea that someone else is gonna take care of it.

i think it is harry truman who was quoted as "the buck stops here".

each and everyone of us needs to be stopping the buck more often than we do.

I haven't got much time today so I'll try to be succinct in response to CreepyJimmy's preaching.

By the way, who is he talking to?

I'm pretty sure he is just talking to himself - just like in real life.
