Something from nothing.

I really enjoyed this. Fantastic Dawkins & Krauss. Needs 2 hours. Great for any theist who genuinly wants to understand the atheist standpoint. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUe0_4rdj0U

A theist is just an atheist with a space in it.

Oh, Dawkins. Your speaking voice is like magic.

(watching it now. Also thanks to my ps3 I'm watching on my big-ass TV).

Krauss makes a lot of sense too.

How do they know it's "nothing"? How do they know it isn't "something" that they just can't examine?

Plus, Lawrence mentions how he's agnostic, wording it as if agnosticism and atheism are mutually exclusive...

I mean I agree on all their other points, but I disagree on their choice of some words.

xD I'm a semantics dork sometimes.

Nothing as far as we would describe "nothing". I guess he is happy to wait for evidence to prove the existence of some or other god or something. Maybe an alien race that we would regard as gods etc.

I'm sure there are many of them watching the 2 hours right now to appreciate a non believing point of view.

Who said that the only other possibility was an intelligent race and/or being?

We should try to avoid being victims of using the argument of ignorance ourselves. Even if only options that we're aware of might not be the explanation ultimately supported by evidence, there can be explanations that we've never even heard of, let alone considered. Not to mention, can you examine and confirm that the "nothing" you're defining is truly nothing?

I'm just saying that we can't use a term that claims absolute certainty(as in "there's nothing there") that we aren't absolutely certain about. It's logically impossible for us to ever know that "nothing" exists, as we can't know definitively that what we're examining or testing is in fact "nothing".

They were using the intelligent race or being as a possibility I think. As for the something from nothing, well that is what it is. What we class as nothing produces stuff, therefore really isn't nothing. What it is will probably have top wait till we understand multiverses/dimensions and what gravity really is.
