I have XP with AT&T DSL on my (used to be) new computer. My computer guy told me Vista was shit and I'd heard similar talk from other sources, so, I didn't take the chance. I'm happy with it.

Windows 7 is amazing. I've been running the RC for awhile now.
It can run on really shitty machines too.
96 MB RAM, 264 MHz processor
Obviously that isn't practical for everyday use, but it runs great on any modern machine.

Is the final supposed to be scalable down to pda's? It's what I heard.
Vista is the new millenium edition. Anyone who knows demands xp on a new pc. Exorbitant system requirements & drm paranoid.
I'm loving the intel atom, with OS's running from solid state. For anyone not a gamer, smaller cooler & no moving parts has to be the way to go.

Indeed, and many manufacturers will be happy to offer you an XP "downgrade", for a price!

Vista really wasn't that bad.*
*As long as you had a good computer with plenty of RAM

Weird. I have a Core2Duo 2.4 Ghz laptop and it worked fine.
The only problem I ever really had with Vista was disconnecting from the built-in VPN. It would always take about 10 minutes so I would just do a hard shutdown if I was in a hurry.

In case you have Vista, and want to upgrade to Windows 7, Microsoft is offering reduced prices for a limited time.
Here is some more info on the upgrade.
I have Vista, and am on the fence about it, but I've heard that W7 is supposed to be pretty good.

Well worth the $50. I've been running the Win7 RC since it was released and have had almost no problems.

Just saw on the net: Anyone buying a Vista PC this year, can have a free upgrade to 7 when it comes out.
If that isn't an admission of culpability, I donno what is.

They do that with every OS release so that computer sales don't slow down.

I recall reading somewhere that the free upgrade doesn't apply to us low-life scum in the UK.
Or did I dream it?

It does, but I think £17 admin charge.
Fun thing: I might get one of those little Atom things that clip on the back of a teevee. Gets you vista & a free upgrade for about £200. No way I'm dropping xp pro from my main comp as it's hacked & pimped like a seamless brain extension.
