At least 1,000 times, by my modest estimate.
The thing she never understood is that her pungent cow patties stunk every bit as much as any other bullshit artist's, be they Christian, Muslim, Hindu or Wiccan.
It was a sad defect of her personality that she could not cop to being ignorant of the unknown and unknowable.

Back to the topic of the thread, since I haven't actually spoken about this yet..
I don't find anything scarier than dogma following, warmongering, silencing dissention and bigotry. And nothing wraps these tenents together in a neater little easy-swallow package than fundamentalist religion, especially some branches of Christianity and Islam.
Anyone who read my introduce yourself thread knows I come from a Buddhist family, but I don't have call to argue with my family often, the last time i can remember was last year when my father said a young girl (18 or 19 I think) came to seek refuge at the Buddhist centre he was staying at in Poland after being raped. And he said that the concept of Karma, I hope you're all familiar with, so I won't go into detail, holds that she must have done something terrible in a past life to deserve it.
I have known and tried to console rape victims and I can't think of anything more disgusting to tell them than "you deserved it"
I call that blaming the victim, and fucking disgusting.
Whereas Islam I can very easily find faults with, even on this issue the Buddhists have completely ass-backwards, the Muslims get it EVEN MORE wrong and think the best thing to do in this situation is STONE THE POOR GIRL TO DEATH!
You know sometimes I forget what a young, foolish species we are, but thanks to religions, I am constantly reminded.
Anybody who is for scientific inquiry, equal rights and just good old fashioned progress, should be against at least some tenents of Islam. Because women aren't unclean, menstruation isn't unnatural, and women are not worth anything less than men! One of the quickest ways to curtail progress in a society is to instantly write off half of the population..seriously, my mind just boggles.
Islam is frightening, we should rightly be afraid if we value free speech and peace to name but 2 things a society will crumble without. It is also ridiculous, like all religions i've ever heard of and so rightly deserves our ridicule.
Sorry if I rambled here and there, I got a little excited and just typed out my train of thought.

The problem of this crazy religious thinking is FaithPsychosis a neurological anomaly mimicking schizophrenia, that makes people throw away reason & logic accepting bizarre beliefs ( there is no difference between schizophrenia induced deluded reasoning & those of deeply religious folks) as if they were logical rational & factual. Religious folks reason like a person ( including mathematicians) that is convinced that 2+2=5.
Religious psychosis can be compared to myopia that distort vision making people unable to understand what an image represents giving an erroneous information to the brain.
People with a healthy clear vision could correct anyone suffering from myopia giving him/her the correct information.
Poor reasoning that embraces delusions as real = neurological impairment ( found in religious beliefs & many neurological disorders)
Poor vision which impairs clarity of objects making understanding of what they represent impossible=vision impairment ( myopia, astigmatism, Retinitis pigmentosa etc)
Religious folks reason not unlike people suffering trauma, drug abuse, hypoxia, or any minor neurological disorders that produce altered states or distorts the perception of reality.
Christians and other folks infected with delusional beliefs think and reason like schizophrenics or temporal lobe epileptics. Their morality is dictated by an invisible friend called Jesus.

that was good, jimble. we're all for that....
One of the most irrational of all the conventions of modern society is the one to the effect that religious opinions should be respected....That they should have this immunity is an outrage. There is nothing in religious ideas, as a class, to lift them above other ideas. On the contrary, they are always dubious and often quite silly.

You brushed across a key point in your post. Muslim men are deathly afraid of women and the birth canal. We know that women are highly restricted in public, by having to wear the Burka, for example, because the men are literally risking their honor and that of their whole family if anything they think is dishonorable* happens to the women for any reason. If she is raped, it is just as bad as if she has consensual sex anywhere but in the home.
It is astonishing to me that the women have not, in some 16 centuries, realized this power and brought their men to their knees in "all of the senses that apply".
* the parameters of Muslim honor are strange to people in the West. For instance, it is perfectly to lie, cheat and steal from any un-believer or non-believer.

CalPudPuller,
People who, in your words, "throw away logic", perhaps due to socially enforced dogma, think and act just like people who never had logic in the first place. And both of them are sane (except for the 1% or so incidental and irrelevant schizophrenics).
BINGO

A fair effort indeed, but tone does need some work.
For a northerner, just one 'fucking' and one very mild 'ass' sets a bad example - for fucks sake!

Haha! I try to limit my swearing so it retains its impact, but I had to emphasise a few points there, i'm suprised I didn't swear more in fact.
On topic again: what did you guys make of the stupid pastor threatening to burn Qurans?
I was the only person I knew defending his right to do it, if a Muslim wanted to burn a few Bibles I don't think there'd have been much fuss.
As far as I could tell, non-Muslims are particularly sensitive about offending Muslims, because they kill people when they get mad.
Like when the Danish cartoons were published, and embassies were burnt and people killed.
note: I still thought he was a bigot only out to start unecessary trouble, and the media didn't need to carry the story. But in a comparison of burning a small number of books, which will have no detrimental effect on carrying on the memes of the book, the classic function of book-burning, to as i'm sure many of us expected; a murderous mob, I know which is the more harmful act.
I think it is important to educate people that they don't have the right not to be offended.
