Today's savior and redeemer is Quirinus. (Not to be confused with the two Roman saints, hundreds of years later, who had the same name.)
Quirinus was a Roman deity that was said to have been crucified in Rome in 506 BCE. Quirinus: ...was born to a virgin. ...almost lost his life in his youth - sought out by the reigning king (Amulius). ...was of royal blood. ...was "put to death by wicked hands" -- i.e., crucified. ...was resurrected, and ascended back to heaven. At this god's departure from the mortal realm, the whole earth is said to have been enveloped in darkness. (Funny how that also happened when imaginary Jesus, Chrishna, and Prometheus died.)
