Excellent.

Now, do you understand that the majority of your fellow Christians not only don't support it, but actively seek to outlaw it?
Unfortunately, yes. I'm well aware of that.

Which teachings?
The ones that say that gay sex is an abomination, that cities where gay sex takes place should be burnt down to the pilings, and that wasting sperm in non-baby producing acts is a vile sin, for starters.

Maybe if I were a goat herder from a few millenia ago, I would follow those teachings.

How do you decide which parts to follow and which parts to ignore?

I don't. I derive my values and morals from many sources, just like everyone else. One of them happens to be the Bible.

OK.

Why Christianity then? Why not Hinduism like Julia Roberts?

Good question. There are great lessons that can be learned from Hinduism, as well as many, if not most of the other faiths. I get the sense that Hinduism ultimately revolves around the same higher power. I just believe that the Vedas and early Hindu tradition was meant to be mythological in nature.

And Julia Roberts isn't really my type.

And why do you believe in a "higher power?" Why God?

You mean his brains are actually just a recently ingested BK Burger?
