Wow, I didn't even know there was such a big deal made about that elevator guy story. I heard it a while ago but only the initial story. I don't really see how anyone would be upset by what Watson said.

None of us were in that lift, at that particular time, but had I been I could have held the girls hand, in a big brotherly way, if she asked me to. What I can't do from here is stop the socially impaired from entering lifts, nor drunks, in exactly the same way I couldn't have stopped a bloodthirsty psychopath of any gender if that had been who was going about their business on that early Irish morning.

Would you try to hold her hand if she said previously that she didn't want anyone to hold her hand? That is the issue here, she had clearly declared personal boundaries that the dude ignored.

No one is asking you to. But even socially impaired people like me, can detect a clear violation of personal space and boundaries. As for drunk, many a drunk are creepy and do often go past personal boundaries... this however doesn't make it acceptable. In one of the articles that I read yesterday someone wrote a good example:

If you step on my foot, get off my foot.
If you stepped on my foot because a person pushed you, get off my foot.
If you stepped on my foot because you're socially awkward, get off my foot.
If you stepped on my foot because you have a foot stepping disease, get off my foot.
If you stepped on my foot because you thought I'd like it, get off my foot.

It doesn't matter why you stepped on my foot, you need to get off my foot. If you heard me clearly express my dislike for people stepping on my feet and you step on my foot just to see if I'd like it, then you're a creepy asshole.
