the british don't like when the pope meddles in their business?
gawrsh.
that is old news.
so 15th century.

One of the most irrational of all the conventions of modern society is the one to the effect that religious opinions should be respected....That they should have this immunity is an outrage. There is nothing in religious ideas, as a class, to lift them above other ideas. On the contrary, they are always dubious and often quite silly.

You are missing the point. He isn't meddling in their business. He is telling the bishops to grow balls and resist the meddling of the state in their business. We've already been through this in this country. The most successful agency in Mass., a Catholic agency, was forced to get out of the adoption business because it would not place children with gays. (I don't know if the state has since backed down.) If Obama gets his way, a rather huge number of Catholic hospitals and clinics will shut down because they will not submit to being forced to do abortions or prescribe emergency birth control. Good luck replacing them.

Just to be awkward bastards - write to Gordon and press for the Poop to pay for his own scabby visit!

I wonder if the Katlickers are slowly getting the message?

I do hope the Poop gets the message that a lot of folks ain't going to make him welcome. Whilst I wish no-one any harm, I hope his burning ears get plenty of real noise whilst he's here - and he leaves with a real sore tail between his legs. It should be interesting to see what kind of spin the mainstream journaus put on the performance.

Smeellyoldgit, so far as I can see the Poop gets good press no matter where he goes. It isn't like the mainstream media is going to risk pissing off all those Catholics who spend money on the products hawked by the advertisers.

The NSS site is down again this morning due to 'very high traffic' - the queue to sign the "Fuck off Poop" request must be considerable!

The poopish Papal visit would be run-down at best, not "run up".
