Heads UP about the LHC goings ons!

For all those that foster a love of science in your cold godless hearts I wanted to give you guys a heads up and some links! On September 10th from 08:00 to 18:00 the first Beam will be injected into the LHC for realsies! AND they're going to have a live webcast here http://webcast.cern.ch/

Here's all the goodies on what's going to go down that day: http://lhc-first-beam.web.cern.ch/lh...practical.html

Here's hoping everything goes well and Sept. 10 2008 goes down in the history books as a monumental success!

The good ol' BBC are giving it a bit of publicity here

I wonder if the Twatican will make space for a report - or will we have to wait 500 years?

This is exciting stuff. I've just done a bit of learnin' with the OU about elementary particles so now I have a slightly less vague idea of what this thing is all about, I'm even more excited.

Are we going to die via the LHC creating micro-black holes, or strange-matter that will cause an ice-9 like chain reaction? Place yer bets!

Wait just a minute-You expect me to believe-That all this misbehaving-Grew from one enchanted tree? And helpless to fight it-We should all be satisfied-With this magical explanation-For why the living die-And why it's hard to be a decent human being - David Bazan

My money is on auto-erotic asphyxiation with Japanese sex robots.

That's not scheduled to happen until 2025 Prof, unless they've made a breakthrough with virtual hymens I haven't heard about.

Can you prove that the LHC doesn't create Japanese sex robots?

That's what I thought.

In the future the LHC will provide knowledge to create LCTs ( Libido Care Takers) that would be essential in every relationship. It will keep marriages ( straight or gay) from collapsing. They will prevent rage, depression, loneliness, suicide, horniness, violence, creating great joy de vivre, the urge to live longer & productive lives. Also will dissipate religious-psychosis bringing those infected to the ground of reality from those heights of deluded thinking. LCTs will indirectly crush Christ-psychosis like penicillin crushes neisseria gonohrrea.

Christians and other folks infected with delusional beliefs think and reason like schizophrenics or temporal lobe epileptics. Their morality is dictated by an invisible friend called Jesus.

Great quotes from Prof Brian Cox in the Radio Times via PodblackCat

Quote:
“The nonsense you find on the web about ‘doomsday scenarios’ is conspiracy theory rubbish generated by a small group of nutters, primarily on the other side of the Atlantic. These people also think that the Theory of Relativity is a Jewish conspiracy and that America didn’t land on the Moon. Both are more likely, by the way, than the LHC destroying the world. I’m slightly irritated, because this non-story is symptomatic of a larger mistrust in science, particularly in the US, which includes things like intelligent design.”
Quote:
The Uncertainty Principle is part of quantum mechanics, and the whole subject is based on that. So it affects every result at LHC, but it doesn’t affect the conclusion that anyone who thinks the LHC will destroy the world is a t**t.
