Moroccan girl commits suicide after being forced to marry her rapist

http://english.alarabiya.net/article...14/200577.html

Quote:
A 16-year-old Moroccan girl has committed suicide after a judge ordered her to marry her rapist, according to Moroccan media reports.

Last year Amina’s parents filed charges against their daughter’s rapist, a man 10 years older than her but it was only recently that a judge in the northern city of Tangier decided that instead of punishing him, the two must be married.

The court’s decision to forcibly marry Amina to her rapist was supposed to “resolve” the damage of sexual violation against her, but it led to more suffering in the unwelcoming home of her rapist/husband’s family.

Traumatized by the painful experience of rape, Amina decided to end her life by consuming rat poison in the house of her husband’s family, according to the Moroccan daily al-Massae.

According to the newspaper, this type of forced marriage is rooted in local rural traditions to safeguard the honor of girls who are raped.

Moroccan penal code exempts a rapist from punishment if he agrees to marry his victim.

Feminists have long demanded an amendment to this article.

Hafida Elbaz, director of the Women’s Solidarity Association told a-Massae that the article provides an opportunity for a perpetrator to avoid punishment.

The story has widely spread on Twitter and on Facebook with many in Morocco demanding action against the judge who issued the ruling.
Saw this on my friend's Facebook. There's biblical morality for ya.

I like the way they say "Feminists have long demanded an amendment to this article." Shouldn't that read "any person with common sense and a shred of fucking humanity are outraged by the backwards thinking of the thick cunts".

I can't say any more about it or I will have to fly to Morroco and start punching people.

Perhaps the judge should be made to marry the rapist.

Perhaps the rapist should be put on trial for his crime.

One can only hope. Rape is a horrible crime, and is made worse when the victim is blamed. This instance is far from isolated.

It looks to me like this guy will not suffer any consequences for what he has done. And that seems just wrong.

The thing is, the judge may have actually done this on behalf of the victim, so that her honor would be restored and she wouldn't have to live with the taint of rape. Kind of like, "I'm not letting this man fuck and run, he will be forced to live up to his responsibilities".

In short, I don't think the judge understands what rape actually is. He's basically just seeing it as a sexual encounter gone bad that has to be restored via marriage. I'm sure the writers of the bible also thought this way too (Deuteronomy 22:28-29).

If there was any sound logic to this ruling then bank robbers would be installed as branch manager upon getting nicked.

What a boon for psychopathic stalkers, they just have to do the deed to possess the the object of their desire.

She lived with the rape for over a year. She did not commit suicide because of the rape. She was strong enough to withstand that.

It was her being forced to marry the criminal which sent her over the top.

She must have thought of it as her only escape. So sad.
