Newsflash: Time May Not Exist

Here is an interesting article about the nature of time.

“The meaning of time has become terribly problematic in contemporary physics,” says Simon Saunders, a philosopher of physics at the University of Oxford. “The situation is so uncomfortable that by far the best thing to do is declare oneself an agnostic.”

What is a "philosopher of physics?"

A philosopher who has specialized in philosophy of science, particularly the study of (meta)theories of physics.

Wait just a minute-You expect me to believe-That all this misbehaving-Grew from one enchanted tree? And helpless to fight it-We should all be satisfied-With this magical explanation-For why the living die-And why it's hard to be a decent human being - David Bazan

Of course time exists. Perhaps not in an actual sense, but if the humously perceived notion of time does not exist, then everything would stand still. Our definition of time is pre-conceived by our definition of time. If you strip our calendars and clocks away from this world, we will still see that things age - and that is time.

Why? It's one of the few respectable fields of philosophy left, imo. At least they're not arguing over whether God can make a burrito so hot even he can't eat it.

What the hell is "science of science"? Or is that something you pulled out your ass?

philosophy = not a belgian waffle.

"philosophy of science" = (not a belgian waffle) of science.

Yes, because that analogy is totally relevant. Because belgian waffles are comparable to science in that they are fields of study, academic tracts, etc.

"Beligian waffle" is also a way to look at the world, like science. And like philosophy. So that analogy is fucking perfect.

Define "philosophy" and define "science" and, in many ways, the words are antonyms.

An alternative response would be, "Indeed. And I don't think Oxford employs a belgian waffle of science."

Philosophy: the study of the fundamental nature of knowledge, reality, and existence.
- the study of the theoretical basis of a particular branch of knowledge or experience : the philosophy of science

Science: the intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment.

Antonym: a word opposite in meaning to another.

You wake up on the stupid side of the bed this morning, Prof?
