Rhinoq, regarding the Bukowski song...

I frankly LOVE Bukowski because he's an asshole. A really talented asshole.

Not a song, but an excerpt from the best poem to represent Bukowski's tendency to be an asshole from his poem "poetry readings":

Quote:
Bukowski wrote
I am ashamed for them,
I am ashamed that they have to bolster each other,
I am ashamed for their lisping egos,
their lack of guts.

if these are our creators,
please, please give me something else:
Rock on, Charles.
Hey, I love Bukowski too. My favorite books of his are Tales of Ordinary Madness and Play the Piano Drunk Like a Percussion Instrument.... But damn, that man is an asshole. :P

My all-time favorite anarchy rap metal band, One Minute Silence:

Album: Buy Now, Saved Later

Holy Man
I could be wrong here
I could be right
I could be the Son of God
Selling you a little life
But you wouldn't see me
You wouldn't hear me
Why you and not me?
Tell me Holy Man

Is that supposed to mean something?
Am I supposed to feel something?
Am I to believe that you hold the key?
My way wrong and yours right?

I could be wrong here
You could be right
Please forgive me I have sinned -
Not on your life
But that's how you want me
But I'll never fear thee
Why you and not me?
Tell me Holy Man

Is that supposed to mean something?
Am I supposed to feel something?
Am I to believe that you hold the key?
My way wrong and yours right?

You want it?
You need it?
You love it?
You keep it

You want me to bow down, lie down, accept it and die
Say what, say what, say what, say what, say why
You want me to fear you, revere you, never question your lies
Say what, say what, say what, say what, say why

The Roof Of The World
As I look back my anger turns to rage
These eyes become the windows to a cage
Peace? When has peace had its page?
Nothing but the same old story
As I look back, it looks me in the face
Once small step means McDonald's in space
To sleep soundly is to know your place
Nothing but the same old story

Sometimes I feel like the roof of the world
Crashed down on my head and crumbled
Sometimes I feel like the roof of the world
Crashed down on my head and crumbled

As I look back every killer has his day
Little Boy, Fat Man and Enola Gay
In God we trust and bombs away
Nothing but the same old story

As I look back my anger turns to hate
Six million Jews just to test my faith
The voice of reason is a limited trait
Nothing but the same old story

Sometimes I feel like the roof of the world
Crashed down on my head and crumbled
Sometimes I feel like the roof of the world
Crashed down on my head and crumbled

As I look back it looks me in the face
Our legacy is a lesson in waste
Of things to come maybe just a taste
And all for the greater glory
And all for the greater glory
And all for the greater glory

"Short Memory" - Midnight Oil, circa 1983:

Conquistador of Mexico, the Zulu and the Navajo
The Belgians in the Congo short memory
Plantation in Virginia, the Raj in British India
The deadline in South Africa short memory
The story of El Salvador, the silence of Hiroshima
Destruction of Cambodia short memory

Short memory, must have a, short memory

The sight of hotels by the Nile, the designated Hilton style
With running water specially bought short memory
A smallish man Afghanistan, a watch dog in a nervous land
They’re only there to lend a hand short memory
Wake up in sweat at dead of night
And in the tents new rifles hey short memory

If you read the history books you’ll see the same things happen again and again
Repeat repeat short memory they’ve all got it
When are we going to play it again
Got a short, got a short, got a short, got a short
They’ve got a short must have a short they’ve got a short aah
Short memory, they’ve got a

I'm Sorry

By Evergrey

I painted a picture of you
Your soul was red & your mind was blue
Destiny lad a light on my creation
This dream I had made a slave of my passion
Reality was always too far away

And we were happy until it came too close 1 day
Suddenly I faced the truth of my dream
My love had only been a picture, a scene
I suppose I needed to believe
Didn't want to see you had never been close to me

But I'm sorry
This illusion has caused you a lot of pain
And I have no solution
I'll try to never be back again

I'm sorry
I'm sorry
I'm sorry
I'm sorry

I painted a picture of you
My dream was a lie & the lie became truth
Reality held his breath too long
It's disgusting what dreams can do

But I'm sorry
This illusion has caused you a lot of pain
And I have no solution
I'll try to never be back again

I'm sorry
I'm sorry
I'm sorry
I'm sorry

Real Life, Cog

This is the first track on The New Normal album, (where the heavy proggressive rock music is often more obvious than the lyrics) I wonder if anyone can tell me there opinions on what this song is about. As for me, i think it may be about losing religion, or prompting someone else to lose their religion. The line 'the golden bus is running late' seams to be suggesting a special something that takes you somewhere, and they say it is running late (possibly the realization that you won't be taken to heavan?)What do you think?

Underrated, overstated real life
Integrated, thats all right, just realize
Exploited, it's so jaded, real life
Dressed as concience, masquerated

I hope you noticed, when i said it's not ok
And i hope your ready
(Into the rip, i'm heading out again)
(Over my head, i can't get out of it)

Dialing up, you know this story
Turn your head the other way
(Into the rip, i'm heading out again)
(Over my head, i can't get out of it)

Underrated, overstated real life
Integrated, thats all right, just realize
Exploitated, it's so jaded, real life
Dresses as concience, masquerated

All those backwards thoughts your having
Got the low down sussed, evacuate
The golden bus is running late
(Into the rip, i'm heading out again)
(Over my head, i can't get out of it)

Firing Line! firing line! firing line!
I realize real life...

And i hope you noticed
When i said it's not ok
Those backward thoughts your having
With the low down sussed, evacuate
Into the rip ...

Persian Love Song - Dead Can Dance

[Persian:]
Migan asbet rafighe rooze jange
Mo migooyom azoo behtar tofange
Svaare bi tofang ghodrat nadaare
Svaar vaghti tofang daare svaare

Tofange daste noghream raa forookhtam
Baraaye del ghabaaye terme dookhtam
Ferestaadom baraayom pas ferestaad
Tofange daste noghream daad-o-bidaad

[English:]
[the silver-stock gun]
They say your charger is your pal on the day of battle
I say even better is a gun
A cavalryman without a gun is without vigour
A cavalryman is one when he's got a gun

I sold my silver-stock gun
Sewed a Termeh frock for my love
Sent it to her, she returned it to me
My silver-stock gun...

Inherited Scars - Sage Francis

I didn't tell anyone about what I seen or heard that day, mums the word still
I'm scared to plant ideas into your head while your rebellious side is fertile
Hurdles are getting knocked down
I'm running a losing race
Your legs aren't the only ones marked up - how many dreams have you chased?
If I could have said this to your face maybe you wouldn't have to write like I do,
Except I use paper instead of my body now; it's something you might want to try too
From haikus to horror stories, it's something in our blood that we share,
Something in our blood that appears on the surface of our skin when we bring it there
My facial expression said I didn't care
Hate and aggression must've made an impression on the little kid who stared,
Sitting on stairs when I would bother to bring my skates
My feeble attempt at being a strong, big brother doing father figure 8's
Ripping my cape on the ground that it dragged on
Tripping on fate and hearing the sounds of a sad song
Listen, it's great sharing time now that dad's gone,
But what's with the choice of words?
Or the body parts that you decided to tag them on?
I'm a vagabond, who moved to modern day Babylon and then back again
With minimal contact and you know I can't ask your mom what's happening
You've got such beautiful gifts What are you doing ruining the packaging?
How ironic come to think I probably put this ink on my back for him
I want you to laugh and sing more,
But you dropped anchor in a place
where dreams go to die and you're keeping your ass indoors
I'm asking for you to stick it out and see things through
You're asking for me to zip my mouth and keep it just between me and you

[Chorus]
If I could have been there from the beginning if I could be there right now
if I could promise to be there when you need me, would it raise an eyebrow?
How would your body be different if I still dropped by for visits?
Is it my place to put a smile on your face?
Could I erase your body language telling you its all been said before?
Or change the words you wrote, exchanging your scars for my metaphors?
I'd add them to my collection while smiling
Next time you want to paint with razor blades and need a canvas use my skin

[Verse Two]
Hiding your sins well, but I see the hell that your limbs speak
Tongue in cheek Lying awake in bed while other kids sleep
The strength of evil begins to keep your grins weak
No matter the length of the needle
marking up one's body is so much more than skin deep
Feel the pin prick The grim reep what they sew and you're trained to say that you're fine
Your threshhold for pain is greater than mine
So I'm waiting in the lines that you give me patiently,
While you get cut in the lines that THEY make YOU wait inin ways that they can't see
If there's a vacancy as far as room in your life goes,
say it to me But don't do it with a knife under your clothes
Because the anguish of hidden skin is letting my ghosts be shown
Plus the language its written in hits especially close to home
I'm most alone when I'm out of touch with the people who feel this type of pain
You might just aim for a day that its raining to strike a vein to take my name in
Changing your uniform and altering your mind set
Has your pointer finger decided if it was a fault of his or mine yet?I bet
I know the dialect It's nowhere I haven't been before
With skin that's sore Battle scars that rise from our inner war
Are decorative medals of honor that our father decided to pass through inheritance
And it is repetitive when the kids head in the direction of evidence
proving the pain and hurt is relative

All this pain and hurt is relative...

The District Sleeps Alone Tonight - The Postal Service

Smeared black ink... your palms are sweaty
And I'm barely listening to life's demands
I'm staring at the asphalt wondering what's buried underneath
Where I am

I'll wear my badge... a vinyl sticker
With big block letters adhered to my chest
That tells your new friends I am a visitor here...
I am not permanent
And the only thing keeping me dry is
Where I am

You seem so out of context in this gaudy apartment complex
A stranger with your door key explaining that I am just visiting
And I am finally seeing
Why I was the one worth leaving

D.C. sleeps alone tonight

The district sleeps alone tonight after the bars turn out their lights
And send the autos swerving into the loneliest evening
And I am finally seeing
Why I was the one worth leaving

ASHES IN THE FALL (Rage Against the Machine, "The Battle for Los Angeles"

A mass of hands press on the market window
Ghosts of progress
Dressed in slow death
Feeding on hunger
And glaring through the promise
Upon the food that rots slowly in the aisle
A mass of nameless at the oasis
That hides the graves beneath the master's hill
Are buried for drinking
The rivers water while
Shackled to the the line at the empty well

This is the new sound, just like the old sound
Just like the noose wound, over the new ground
This is the new sound, just like the old sound
Just like the noose wound, over new ground

Listen to the facist sing
"Take hope here
War is elsewhere
You were chosen
This is Gods land
Soon we'll be free
Of blot and mixture
Seeds planted by our Forefathers hand"
A mass of promises
Begin to rupture
Like the pockets Of the new world kings
Like swollen stomachs In Appalachia
Like the priest that fucked you as he whispered holy things
A mass of tears have transform the stones now
Sharpened on suffering
And woven into the slings
Hope lies in the rubble of this rich fortress
Taking today what tomorrow never brings

This is the new sound, just like the old sound
Just like the noose wound, over new ground
This is the new sound, just like the old sound
Just like the noose wound, over the new ground
This is the new sound, just like the old sound
Just like the noose wound, over the new ground
Ain't the new sound, just like the old sound
Look at the noose now, over the, over the, over the burning ground

Ain't it funny how the factory doors close
Round the time that the school doors close
Round the time that the doors of the jail cells
Open up to greet you like the reaper
Ain't its funny how the factory doors close
Round the time that the school doors close
Round the time that a hundred thousand jail cells
Open up to greet you like the reaper

Oh, oh
Oasis
This is no oasis

This is the new sound, just like the old sound
Just like the noose wound, over the new ground
This is the new sound, just like the old sound
Just like the noose wound, over the new ground

Like ashes in the fall

Get A Room, Jim O'Rourke

It’s always me in the only seat
That has a canopy
There to screw up the best laid plans
Of those with company

I’d like nothing more to do
Than to watch the desperation on your face
I might send you straght to hell
Like it’s worse to end up in this place

If I gave you, one night to live
Would you know who to choose to take home
And if she falls asleep before the night is through
Because she has to go to work
And you don’t

And the night’s getting longer
And your skin’s getting colder
And you won’t get much older

And you try to move towards her
But you can’t move your shoulder
And you’re sight’s getting dimmer
Maybe if you kick her
But your leg’s getting weaker
And she’s such a deep sleeper
And you would get a snorer
To share your last hour
You sure picked a winner
And time’s seeming slower
And now you can’t see her
All you see is a timer
Moving backwards and forwards
And the night’s getting longer
And your skin’s getting colder

Muskrat Love

Muskrat, muskrat candlelight
Doin' the town and doin' it right
In the evenin'
It's pretty pleasin'

Muskrat Susie, Muskrat Sam
Do the jitterbug out in muskrat land
And they shimmy
And Sammy's so skinny

And they whirled and they twirled and they tangoed
Singin' and jingin' the jango
Floatin' like the heavens above
It looks like muskrat love

Nibbling on bacon, chewin' on cheese
Sammy says to Susie "Honey, would you please be my missus?"
And she say yes
With her kisses

And now he's ticklin' her fancy
Rubbin' her toes
Muzzle to muzzle, now anything goes
As they wriggle, and Sue starts to giggle

And they whirled and they twirled and they tangoed
Singin' and jingin' the jango
Floatin' like the heavens above
It looks like muskrat love

La da da da da ...

Nine Inch Nails - Right Where It Belongs

see the animal in his cage that you built?
are you sure what side you're on?
better not look him too closely in the eye...
are you sure what side of the glass you're on?

see the safety of the life you have built?
everything where it belongs...
feel the hollowness inside of your heart
and it's all right where it belongs...

what if everything around you isn't quite what it seems?
what if all the world you think you know is an elaborate dream?
and if you look at your reflection, is that all you want to be?
what if you could look right through the crack?
would you find yourself... find yourself afraid to see?

what if all the world's inside of your head?
just creations of your own...
your devils and your gods and the living and the dead
and you really are alone
you can live in this illusion
you can choose to believe
you keep looking but you can't find words
are you hiding in the trees?

what if everything around you isn't quite what as seems?

what if all the world you used to know is an elaborate dream?
and if you look at your reflection, is that all you want to be?
what if you could look right through the cracks?
would you find yourself... find yourself afraid to see?

Nine Inch Nails - Only
i'm becoming less defined as days go by
fading away and well you might say i'm losing focus
kind of drifting to the abstract in terms of how i see myself
sometimes i think i can see right through myself

less concerned about fitting into the world
you're world that is
'cause it doesn't really matter anymore
none of this sh...

and yes i am alone then again i always was
as far back as i can tell i think maybe it's because...
you were never really real to begin with
i just made you up to hurt myself
yeah, i just made you up to hurt myself
and it worked... yes it did

there is no you
there is only me
there is no fucking you
there is only me

only...

well the tiniest little dot caught my eye
and it turned to be a scab
and i had this funny feeling like i just knew it's something bad
i just couldn't leave it alone... picking at this scab
it was a doorway trying to seal itself shut, but i climbed through

no i'm somewhere i am not supposed to be
and i can see things i know i really shouldn't see
and now i know why... n-now i know why
things aren't as pretty on the inside

there is no you
there is only me
there is no fucking you
there is only me

only...

Poor Man's Crusade

By Demons & Wizards

The Holy Ghost can't save you anymore
Your souls are condemned to burn in hell
Damned for all time
So spoke the noble one
He convinced us all
He is a gifted man
Though he will slaughter in the name of Christ

Holy and bright
He's a devil in disguise
Protector of the cross
Beware of the snake

[chorus:]
All in all it's just a poor man's crusade
Poor man's crusade
The Holy Land home of our blessed lord
Enslaved and stained by godless hands
They shall be damned
Jerusalem
Is waiting for you
To rise once again
So we will slaughter in the name of Christ

Holy father, holy father

[chorus]

You'll shed your blood
Your bodies fall
That is the price you'll pay
To cleanse you of your sins
Vicious and cruel
Let's kill them all
Let's kill them all

So we will slaughter in the name of Christ

Holy father, holy father

[chorus]
