Yesterday I voted. I feel like my vote is important because I live in Ohio. I don't particularly enjoy voting because it is one of the few times during the year that I have to actually venture inside of a church (as my voting location is in a Presby church). Here's what bothered me:
When I arrived, I witnessed scores of senior citizens lined up to vote, which is normal, I guess. In addition, there were signs posted everywhere that said, "Do not vote twice: If you have filled out an absentee ballot you cannot vote here!" and related postings. In addition, I saw three mentally handicapped adults being led by their caretakers to the voting machines. One guy was in a wheelchair and was incabable of speech or any gross motor skills. His mom told the ringleaders which candidates he "likes". Now, I believe that this man has all the same rights as you or I, but come on! It basically gives his mom/caretaker two votes. The other two I saw were more high-functioning. One disabled gentleman could even say, "I VOTE!". But he had no idea what the hell was going on. His caretaker guided him quietly, helping him touch the screen.
When I arrived home, my husband and his friend had also seen a mentally handicapped person and her caretaker "voting" when they were at the polls. In a county where less than 40% of the citizens vote, I guess every vote really counts.

I would be more angry that the voting is taking place in a church. If we have somebody who is on the fence about gay marriage, the last thing we need is jesus glaring at them while they placing their vote.

I don't know, it's a touchy subject. Good topic. On the one hand, I don't think retards should vote. (And yes, I used the word 'retard.' Fuck 'mentally challenged.' They're fucking retards. Just like 'physically challenged' people are fucking cripples. There's nothing wrong with the words, it's the fucking politically correct assholes that want to continuously soften the English language. Just like 'post-traumatic stress disorder' is fucking shell shock. See Carlin, George for a far better rant on the pussification of America.)

I'm in Ohio too and "we" seemed to do a much better job this year than in 2004. Blackwell is a huge bible retard and really had no change at being gov. Still nice to see him go down in flames. I just disagree with the way Ohio voted on most of the statewide issues.

Some deuche-bags on fox late during coverage said something to the effect that it was a great loss, but we haven't seen the last of him. A bid for the presidency in 08 is a real likelyhood.
The real question here is, however, why in the fuck did I have my TV tuned in to Fox news for election coverage?

They get all of their ratings from people who want to see what the "other side" believes. O'Riley being proud of his ratings is like a homeless guy taking a shit on the street believing that people are watching because they think he's sexy.

I was going to comment on how messed up it is that you have polling stations in churches in Ohio, but, here, in Texas (the Bible Belt), we don't. But then, I went back and checked the lists, and, sure enough, there are some churches mixed in.
So, we're no better here (not that I'm surprised).
On the subject of helping retarded people to vote, I thought it was illegal to help people vote. If they are unable to vote for themselves, the only people that can assist them are the election officials. In fact, you're not even allowed to help a family member vote (say, an elderly mother, or a vision-impaired spouse).
Some people who tried to help elderly people vote by collecting their ballots and delivering them are currently being prosecuted.
So, what gives?
