Numb - Portishead

Unable so lost,
I can't find my way,
Been searching, but I have never seen,
A turning, a turning from deceit.

‘Cause the child roses like,
Try to reveal what I could feel,
I can't understand myself anymore,
‘Cause I'm still feeling lonely,
Feeling so unholy.

‘Cause the child roses like,
Try to reveal what I could feel,
And this loneliness,
It just won't leave me alone, oh no.

I'm fooling somebody,
A faithless path to roam,
Deceiving to breath this secretly,
A silence, this silence I can't bear.

‘Cause a child roses light,
Try to reveal what I could feel,
And this loneliness,
It just won't leave me alone, oh no,
And this loneliness,
It just won't leave me alone.

A lady of war,
A lady of war.

I used to have none
Now with you, I've got one
If I could get just one more
Then you'd know what you're in for
You ain't getting any sleep tonight
I hope you girls don't fight
And I hope you don't run away
Cause I'm halfway to a threeway

I tired again and again
To indulge in just one sin
All you have to do is lie there
While I push aside your wheelchair
I'd do anything it takes
To change your mind and then lock your brakes
So I know that you can't roll away
Cause I'm halfway to a threeway

Can't wipe the smile off my face
When you step out in your leg brace
You can't just climb the stairs
And you ain't got any hair
I can't get you to sit
You and your stupid epileptic fits
But I know you can't run away
Cause I'm halfway to a three way

(pretty guitar solo)

As I lay you down on my bed
It don't matter that you're brain dead
I can get so close to you
Now that you're in a coma
I'll make it sweet for sure
When I pull on your life support
And know that you just fade away
And I'm halfway to a threeway

Jim O'Rourke, Halfway to a Threeway

Wait just a minute-You expect me to believe-That all this misbehaving-Grew from one enchanted tree? And helpless to fight it-We should all be satisfied-With this magical explanation-For why the living die-And why it's hard to be a decent human being - David Bazan

Halo
God is in my fingers
God is in my head
God is in the trigger
God is in the lead
God is freedom, God is truth
God is power and God is proof
God is fashion, God is fame
God gives meaning, God gives pain

You can be right like me With God in the hole you're a righteous soul
I got a halo round me, I got a halo round me
I'm not the same as you Cos I've seen the light and I'm gaining in height now
I got a halo round me, I got a halo round me I got a halo round my head

God is on the cellphone
God is on the net
God is in the warning
God is in the threat

Arriving Somewhere but not Here
Never stop the car on a drive in the dark
Never look for the truth in your mother's eyes
Never trust the sound of rain upon a river rushing through your ears
Arriving somewhere but not here

Did you imagine the final sound as a gun?
Or the shattered windows of a car?
Did you ever imagine the last thing you'd hear as you're fading out was a song?

All my designs simplified And all of my plans compromised
All of my dreams sacrificed
Ever had the feeling you've been here before?
Drinking down the poison the way you were taught
Every thought from here on in your life begins and all you knew was wrong?
Did you see the red mist block your path?
Did the scissors cut a way to your heart?
Did you feel the envy for the sons of mothers tearing you apart?

(Lyrics c 2004 Steven Wilson/Porcupine Tree)

"Science and Mother Nature are in a marriage where Science is always surprised to come home and find Mother Nature blowing the neighbor." - Justin's Dad

The Waterboys Medicine Bow

there's a black wind blowing
a typhoon on the rise
pummeling rain
murderous skies!
I'm gonna take my books
I'm gonna wear my coat
I'm gonna find my scarf
and wrap it around my throat
and you can
Come with me
through the driving snow
we're gonna ride on up to
Medicine Bow

well I spent too long
just stuck on the shore
there's a man in my head
but he isn't me anymore
I'm gonna find me a ship
stowaway on a boat
I'm gonna burn all the words
and letters and cards that I ever wrote
and you can
Sail with me
where the current flows
we're gonna move on up to
Medicine Bow

I'm gonna change my colours
cancel my things
stop my squawking
grow some wings!

well I will not sleep
and I will not rest
I will put my soul
and my will to the test
I'm gonna tug at my tether
I'm gonna tear at my lead
I'm gonna test my knowledge
in the field of deeds
and you can
Run with me
FAST AS WE CAN GO
over the hill to
Medicine Bow

Tiger The Lion

The Tragically Hip

This is Tiger the Lion, gimme the Knuckles of Frisco
If there's danger in the language, gentlemen,
I suggest no further use of the two-way radio.

'John Cage had come to feel that art in our time
was far less important than our daily lives,
to which so many'd become more or less inclined.
The purpose of it's not unique. Not to build masterpieces
for a delectative elite, but simply to wake to your life.'*

You'll be serving the song
When you find out you won't change
Serving the song
Walking the range.

'John Cage had come to feel art in our time
was much less important than our daily life
If there's a perpetual plan for discovery days
where everyone can take part in what he called
purposeless play.

And there's a sign of life in this play
not to get order from chaos tell you how to create
but simply to wake to your life.'

You'll be serving the song
When we find out you won't change
Serving the song
Bombing the range

This is Tiger the Lion
get me Into the Pillows
If you're painted by radar, gentlemen,
there'll be no further use of
the two-way radio

This song just popped up on iTunes, and I had to share it with all yall.

Bukowski, Modest Mouse

Woke up this morning and it seemed to me,
that every night turns out to be
A little more like Bukowski.
And yeah, I know he's a pretty good read.
But God who'd wanna be?
God who'd wanna be such an asshole?
God who'd wanna be?
God who'd wanna be such an asshole?

Well we sat on the edge of the river,
the crowd screamed, "Sacrifice the liver!"
If God takes life, he's an Indian giver.
So tell me now why, you'll tell me never.
Who would wanna be?
Who would wanna be such a control freak?
Well who would wanna be?
Who would wanna be such a control freak?

Well see what you wanna see. You should see it all.
Well take what you want from me. You deserve it all.
Nine times out of ten our hearts just get dissolved.
Well I want a better place or just a better way to fall.

But one time out of ten, everything is perfect for us all.
Well I want a better place or just a better way to fall.
Here we go!

If God controls the land and disease,
keeps a watchful eye on me,
If he's really so damn mighty,
my problem is I can't see,
well who would wanna be?
Who would wanna be such a control freak?
Well who would wanna be?
Who would wanna be such a control freak?

Evil home stereo, what good songs do you know?
Evil me, oh yeah I know, what good curves can you throw?

Well all that icing and all that cake,
I can't make it to your wedding, but I'm sure I'll be at your wake.
You were talk, talk, talk, talkin' in circles that day,
when you get to the point make sure that I'm still awake, OK?

Went to bed and didn't see
why every day turns out to be
a little bit more like Bukowski.
And yeah, I know he's a pretty good read.
But God who'd wanna be?
God who'd wanna be such an asshole?

Be Yourself - Audioslave

Someone falls to pieces
sleepin all alone
someone kills the pain
spinning in the silence
to finally drift away
someone gets excited
in a chapel yard
catches a bouquet
another lays a dozen white roses on a grave

to be yourself is all that you can do

someone finds salvation in everyone
and another only fame
someone tries to hide themself
down inside their selfish brain
someone swears his true love
until the end of time
another runs away
separate or united?
healthy or insane?

to be yourself is all that you can do

you can be fading out
and pulled apart
or been in love
every single memory of
could have been faces of love
don't lose any sleep tonight
i'm sure everything will end up alright
you may win love

but to be yourself is all that you can do
to be yourself is all that you can do

Nothingface - "Here Come the Butchers" (Skeletons)

We can bring the apocalypse
In our Vatican in line six
We're the face of the end of time
We can burn and leave no ash behind

Now it's butcher time

We were never Satanists
Never bit on the Christian myth
You don't see how there one in the same?
You pigs just drive us all insane

Now it's butcher time

I think we'll just shut you up
You'll never see anything quite like this
A big fucking shit colored sky
That rains constant cyanide

Now it's butcher time

The devil lives in Rome
The devil cloaked in robes

Who do you control?
You can't control your own priests
[x2]

Can't fool the world again
The book is fuckin' dead

Lying and smiling and fucking
It's all about control

Useless and boring
Knee deep in Christian shit

Christians and Catholics
A plague that scars the world

Killers and rapists
Your priests are uncontrolled

The devil lives in Rome
The devil cloaked in robes

This thread is too much fun. :)

Save Yourself, Aesop Rock

(Chill with that ill behavior) - KRS sample

Pull the pin out, sheep creep in wolf garb
Fronted by the Hail Mary parry lunge mixer
Kill the populace for stability, jeopardy's a stickler
Its bob and weave amalgam played the falcon to your fixture
I branch out, arms flailing backwards
wailin upon a tidy sound circuit
slightly foul Gershwin
with a bed of nails and drumlust plus disgusted service
workin in shifts opposite the asbestos brain furnace
I be the now observatory eye ear antenna feeler
Spittin like a dragon with a similar demeanor
stood innocent bystand witness the diehard fans turn Rip Van
in the poppy fields of N.Y.'s orchestrated brick gauntlet
Now I'm thinkin who am I Jabberwocky Superfly bent left
Pushin war without the ten step cushion and what (what)
I plan to hold this beat positive sacred in these golde veins
Until the day I die from grimace overload
It's shock (it's shock)
treatment offered by the weekend
this still be a getaway, let's display the sequence it goes:
One for the heartless thievery turning my guardian angel harpless
And the rest to sweep the mess under the carpet (under the carpet)
I drag a yellow taxi meter behind every measure
And charge cats for labeling me shepherd
"That'll be Six Fifty plus tip darlin,
I take cash, credit, check, money-order, gold and cigarette cartons"
Huh, got caught up in the universe tryin to zoom in on stardom
Forgot the passion plus the hatred, both were based in Carbon
Next time you wanna be a hero try saving somethin other than hip-hop
And maybe hip-hop'll save you from the pit-stop
Kill em all, yield
(naw man It wasn't me it was Holden Caulfield brother
I just read and pulled the trigger)
Oh God, well leave me to tiptoe past the pearly gates
capture the halo, jet back to base, step past the chase
the bad taste of jet-lag and weight slackers
There aint nothin broken, where you at?
The pistons pump perfect, where you at?
The bass tone is Merlin, where you at?
This service is a urgent workin surgeons
Purging formulas lookin for an improper cause is whack

(Chorus 2x)

What are you saving, honestly? (honestly, honestly)
What are you saving, honestly? (honestly, no honestly)
What are you saving, honestly? (damn)
Promise me you gon shut the fuck up and recognize
What you holdin aint really broken?

I don't flick neeedles like my sick friend
I don't march like Beetle Bailey through a quick trend
I don't frequent church's steeples on my weekend
And I don't comment if you formulate a weak Zen.

All I ever really wanted was a getaway
I'ma take a chance by letting a brook slide for what I got in my hands
I can not agree to follow a leader while on the borderline
A war without a reason for the Brady hates gore
Bring out your dead we can put em in a pile
And burn em with the novels for the kids then to admire
KIll the ones that speak from a different life
Brewin other killer noise makin the sentiment...
Okay, welcome to the Kamikaze bottle rocket cockpit
Live by the icy cold hand of bad intention youth blender
Oh yeah I'll let God warm the bench for now but
I'll ascend to spin y'all dizzy
(and for the record I'm bringin my t.v. with me)
Yo, let the commoners speak publicly
Then disperse eye jammies for cats that swear by third pupil
But can't see past the loophole
Motherfucker, my word is born like Siamese triplets
With doctor, lawyer, rocket scientist promise
(let em grow leisurely)
Hey Mom, I'ma fix without my probe along this path
Once my shpeel's perfected I'ma save you a seat in the front row
Of Aesop Rock's twelve steps to shut the fuck up seminar
And when all these bickering crowds turn solid you gon be proud
I tack hacks to the backboard
Honesty's a latchcord
Fury's far from obsolete
Serenity's a crack whore
Raw caricature of mayhem standard branded by the labor
With a thousand reasons to end this for every one of you saviors
Saw the brightest burst ironically wide from the vacant stage
Gave it a pound for burning where bunk ratio's engaged
Keep me posted as to when you grasp something mature to
sit and sulk about mister, and I'll consider pickin up your record

(Chorus 2x)

Wait just a minute-You expect me to believe-That all this misbehaving-Grew from one enchanted tree? And helpless to fight it-We should all be satisfied-With this magical explanation-For why the living die-And why it's hard to be a decent human being - David Bazan

Rhinoq, regarding the Bukowski song...

I frankly LOVE Bukowski because he's an asshole. A really talented asshole.

Not a song, but an excerpt from the best poem to represent Bukowski's tendency to be an asshole from his poem "poetry readings":

Quote:
Bukowski wrote
I am ashamed for them,
I am ashamed that they have to bolster each other,
I am ashamed for their lisping egos,
their lack of guts.

if these are our creators,
please, please give me something else:
Rock on, Charles.

The Arcade Fire - Rebellion

sleeping is giving in,
no matter what the time is.
sleeping is giving in,
so lift those heavy eyelids.

people say that you'll die faster than without water,
but we know it's just a lie,
scare your son and scare your daughter.
people say that your dreams are the only things that save ya.

come on baby in our dreams we can live on misbehaviour.

everytime you close your eyes lies, lies!
people try and hide the night underneath the covers.
come on hide your lovers underneath the covers.

hidin' from your brothers underneath the covers,
come on hide your lovers underneath the covers.
people say that you'll die faster than without water,
but we know it's just a lie,
scare your son scare your daughter

now here's the sun, it's alright! now here's the moon, it's alright!
now here's the sun, it's alright! now here's the moon, it's alright!
but everytime you close your eyes, lies!
