On the Dutch guy's half length model...
Is that thing even a boat? It doesn't appear to have a continuous keel, it looks like a building built to resemble an ark.
And of course... it's half the length of the one described in genesis. I would LOVE for someone to actually attempt to build a full size Noah's Ark... with period technology and everything... and then try to put it to sea!
What really annoys me, though... is the kid gloves these things are treated with... How was it built? Is it even a boat? It should be common knowledge that a boat of this size could not be built as described in the bible. But no... the people are kept ignorant.

Ah! Here we go... from another article:
http://www.columbusdispatch.com/disp...p?story=175770
"As described in Genesis, Noah used "gopher wood" to build his ark. Johan's Ark is constructed with American cedar and Norwegian pine - on top of a seaworthy steel hull."
I guess he interpreted "And thou shalt covereth the wood with pitch" as "Steel ship covered with wood 4 teh win!"

Noah’s Ark
50x30x300 cubits = 450,000 cubic cubits
Width Hgt Length
75x 45x 450 = 1,518,750 cu ' total for 18" cubit
112.5x67.5x 675 = 5,125,781.25 cu ' total for 27" cubit
From Wiki:
55.0 m
(180.4 ft) Syracusia Ca. 240 BC The Greek ship Syracusia is claimed to be the largest transport ship of antiquity. It was designed by Archimedes and built around 240 BC by Archias of Corinth on the orders of Hieron II of Syracuse.
103 m
(338 ft) 13.4 m
(44 ft) Pretoria 1900-1905 sunk An American barge built for use on the Great Lakes. To strengthen its wooden frame and hull, it included steel keelson plates, chords, arches, and also was diagonally strapped with steel. A donkey engine powered a pump to keep its interior dry.
Consider a boat with no propulsion, no rudder and a flat bottom, 450 to 675 feet long floating on a stormy sea for 115 days, the first 40 of which were the very worst storm that ever visited the Earth.
I hereby dispute claims that models have shown adequate strength and minimal deformation in high seas for a barge the size of Noah’s.

Don't be so hard on them. After all Noah plus seven others managed it with primitive tools and no iron in just under a week...oops.
Nevermind. :bop:

All right... check out these pictures on a Dutch web site... Please don't point out that it's in Dutch... I can't read Dutch either... just look at the pictures.
http://www.arkvannoach.com/themakingof.htm
This thing is astonishingly huge, but it's obviously an ark shaped building on top of a steel barge. The ark described in genesis is TWICE as long. I dare anyone, with a straight face... to say some old coot and his 3 sons with no experience in shipbuilding could have pulled that off.

Since it lacked propulsion and steering, it was a barge, not a boat and it was 450 to 675 feet long.
Since the largest barge built, requiring iron which God hates, was only 338 ft long, the ark never existed.

He is also using iron nails which God both hates and fears.
I would gladly pay $10 to see that "boat" with 1/5 of the animals (even baby ones which would not have been babies after 115 days at sea) as specified in the Noah story!
The guy is a bugwit.
