Aye, I was ignorant on that specific usage of ignorant, thank you for your ignorant perspective of the ignorant meaning of ignorant, it appears to be a useful meaning and not a confusing usage of ignorant in that in ignorance one can either be knowledgeable or not whether the person is ignorant of a thing or ignorant in behavior so long as the ignorant person's behavior is ignorant and not ignorant. It's a good thing people use it both ways, because it's perfectly clear.

Ugh. Srsly?

Then again, there are incredibly sexist and misogynistic men throughout our society, just like there are incredibly racist and sexist and homophobic people throughout all walks of life.

It seems that human beings can be incredibly hypocritical, whether they are theists or atheists. I have often thought that religion turns people into hypocrites, but it looks like certain atheists who espouse rationality may use it sparingly, or only apply it to atheism vs. religion, since I do not think that misogyny or racism or homophobia is rational.

I don't think we are fundamentally rational creatures: although we are capable of using logic and rational thinking, we don't use it consistently or even routinely.

Which leads me back to humanism, which could be either secular or religious/spiritual. So once again, I am not sure how Atheism+ is any different than secular humanism.

And people who seem to or just say that they espouse rationality are not always rational. And most people are not rational in at least one aspect of their life.

Our selective vision is once again revealed: The unwillingness to recognize a problem here is not surprising, considering the rape culture in which we live. It is not easy to assert that a woman’s body is always her own, not to be used at the whim of any man without her consent. It is far easier to turn a blind eye to the feelings of women, to claim that they should empathise with the man, that they should be good sports and just go along with it. And the stronger the power structures behind the man, the more difficult it becomes to act otherwise. But if we are serious about bringing down rape culture and reducing the widespread violence against women, then we need to make it clear that engaging with someone sexually without consent is not ok, even when it is an uncomfortable position to take. Especially when it is an uncomfortable position to take.

Wow! I had no idea. I have to admit, at first I was inclined to cut a soldier some slack. And I think of myself as a feminist...this is disturbing to me.

I think it is in the nature of most people to see things in a positive light if possible and not think about difficult things. It's much easier to romanticise especially given the context. A picture can speak a thousand words but it is not always the truth. I always felt this image was a bit dubious the first time I saw it.

I just think the fact that people went out and dug out the truth is absolutely brilliant. Not just about the immediate issues the photo raises but what it says to us about the way we perceive things.
