Because of her ignorant avoidance of genuine questions that were asked in all innocence to try to understand what she believes, I have come to the opinion that she thinks she is on some mission to scunner this site in the eyes of casual readers & dissuade other non-believers from joining by spoiling threads with teeming bile. If she doesn't explain why, if god* literally "handed over" the 10 commandments to Moses, it mentioned other gods when there were none, in words I can understand by the weekend, she has no use to me on here & I'll vote for a cattle grid.

Having said all that, I'd agree to put up with her in a heartbeat if ILJ would fuck off.
What words can you understand? I have already explained the other gods bit in the same way most every scholar of ancient Semitic Studies and the like does. I don't know how to explain it any other way.I keep telling all of you that the Bible is *literature*. It has to be approached that way-- not as a manual written directly by God or dictated in someone's ear. In fact, you can go out and read a page or two of The Redaction of Genesis which is the first book that comes up on my favorite professor's publications site-- Dr. Rendsburg is a fine scholar and Head of the Dept. of Jewish Studies at Rutgers. If you look at, say, the chapter on "Primeval History", you will see how someone who knows how to read literature as literature, and not as a how-to manual approaches it.

This is a community, ILJ. Why should we have to tolerate a persistently disruptive influence who doesn't even try to get along with others?

Most sites where the majority of posters are adults don't grant interlopers that kind of latitude. It's not about not allowing others to have contrary opinions. At one time or another, we have all had disagreements with each other, but if it's consistent, that's a problem.

That said, do I, personally, recommend banning you or Lily? No, I don't want to give either of you that satisfaction. But I like it here, so if I'm going to remain and continue to enjoy myself, well, I guess I'll have to start ignoring the persistent contrarians.
The thing is you are never going to get those answers here. Other sites seem to have a more informative relationship with theists , like weeding them away from their God. Here it's like "what , you dont think like me and a small group of people so fuck off". I used to look after delinquents that thought that way. Some people are not going to see the sky is blue. Attack the philosophy not the person. Only attack the person if there is a threat and I havent seen that here once.

We have attacked your philosophy, and you always take it personally.

If you could at least back up your asinine views with more than appeals to authority, maybe you would get some respect. I won't be holding my breath, though.

I also attacked the little cunt personally, but only because I am an arsehole.

The Redaction of Genesis
- is now out of print - can't wait for the bibble to catch up!
I did start on "Primeval History" - but lost interest on page 1, at the mention of "God's Covenant"

Stop the Holy See men!

No you attack me personally as well. Up to you but do not pretend to do otherwise. I make no appeals to authority. I only tell of examples of respected atheist minds so that you may investigate it if you so chose. The fact that you would rather argue knowing sod all about what you are attacking says less about you not more in my opinion .

Yes but to someone like me that is all just so much filler. How can anyone expect the type of person, myself included, who deals in accurate measurement & predictable parameters, to accept wiffle waffle? I didn't ask to be born this way, so why can't you find it in yourself to show some patience? I'm told as a child there was actual physical interaction between man & god*. That throws up obvious questions about accuracy, which go unanswered; then you come along and hint about some other means of communication that would require a scholarly mind to compute, What do you personally believe was the method employed in the communication between god* & Moses? Or do you only want theologists to go to heaven?

Do you think the commandments were set down by men, who simply by talking among themselves over a long period of time came to an understanding of what god* wanted, without the benefit of any substantive materialisation in the commonly understood way that a non involved person would recognise?

thank goodness he's on our side

What a shame. I thought his discussion of how the author wove the different versions of the stories together that were floating around fascinating. Maybe you might like the last chapter on how scholars have come up with various dates for the writing of Genesis?

Yet other people do and poop to the person who says otherwise about the sky's color.

I hear Bovina gives incredibly good blowjobs. What do you think Choobus?

OK Dogpet. I understand. It will have to wait til tomorrow. I am about to toddle off to bed-- I have a cold and am just not up to any more writing or looking at the computer screen tonight.

Actually, ILJ, I only tackle them personally when they tackle me personally. Lily's passed that threshhold at least 2 years ago, maybe more and now she's just repeating stuff. Hey, she knows she's just recycling stuff. Thats why she's invoking "the Great SteveG" and all that. Anyway, at the point where you realize that you're just repeating stuff, thats when any normal person leaves, but someone like Lily, who clearly gets a high off these arguments, just prefers to keep going and going. This site is an addiction to her. She's not really here to make friends, converts, or even have us understand Christianity. She's here because she gets a high from arguing with people.

Is your memory as spotty as Lily's? Maybe you need to go back and read your own posts. You got all bitchy when we didn't fall to our knees and accept your version of pantheism as the bestest possible way to view the world.

Are you sure you understand what an appeal to authority is? If you contend that you do not make them, then I contend that you don't have the first clue what it means.
