Gay marriage could stop Christians becoming teachers or doctors - church leaders

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/reli...h-leaders.html

So in other words, allow us to discriminate or we won't work for society.

Religion - it gives people hope in a world torn apart by religion.

Works for me.

Always question all authorities because the authority you don't question is the most dangerous... except me, never question me.

Gets my vote!

A theist is just an atheist with a space in it.

A clause of the 1996 Education Act also requires schools to teach children the nature and meaning” of marriage – something the church leaders say could force Christians to go against their conscience once the bill is law.

It's a damn shame that reality "forces" Christians out of the workplace. Too bad, grow up. It's a bitch trying to get a job as a geologist when your "conscience" tells you the Earth is 6000yo.

The only one I can find is Educational Act 1996 and it doesn't mention marriage or "nature and meaning" at all.

Could it have been amended later?

I found this:

‘(1) Section 403 of the Education Act 1996 (sex education: manner of provision) is amended as follows.
(2) After subsection (1D) insert—
“(1E) For the purposes of subsection (1A)—
(a) No school shall be under any duty as a result of the guidance issued to promote or endorse an understanding of the nature of marriage and its importance for family life and the bringing up of children that runs contrary to the designated religious character of the school.
(b) This subsection is without prejudice to any guidance issued by the Secretary of State regarding the legal status of marriage.”.’.—(Mr Burrowes.)

Fuck the English – what do they know about anything?!
I could only find an undated series of amendments to the original act here.
This paragraph
Quote:
(b) they are protected from teaching and materials which are inappropriate having regard to the age and the religious and cultural background of the pupils concerned.
protects the god-whallopers of the wanky ‘faith’ schools.
But as widely reported, there’s likely to be a long, drawn out battle to redefine wedlock in light of the recent legalisation of same-sex marriage, and I suggest the education act will go through numerous further amendments till some consensus on wording is reached. Personally, I’d like all faith schools to be fucked off out of existence, but I don’t think that’s likely for a couple of weeks at least.

Stop the Holy See men!

That's great, where did you find it?

And here's the problem with what you just posted and what you said before, for instance, you stated:

What you posted (without citation), is contradictory to what you previously posted. You first stated that the act requires schools to teach children the nature and meaning of marriage, while the section you posted says it's not required.

My previous post was a snippet from the OP's article with my comments to follow. It was not cited as I figured we all just read the same thing.

The second bit was taken from "They Work For You.com" a site that keeps tabs on the UK's parliaments and assemblies.

And yes, there a contradiction. I posted what I found because it mentions the nature and meaning of marrige. From what I can make out there's another clause written into a proposed bill still in debate.

I found the following on The Catholic Church in England and Wales website:

The Bill creates two potential problems for religious schools: first in relation to current guidance issued by the Secretary of State about marriage, and second in relation to future guidance. Unless protection is built into the Bill, religious schools may be compelled to commend and advocate same sex marriage under current and/or future guidance issued by the Secretary of State.

No great loss. As if people who are that backward have anything to contribute.

Saying that atheists hate God is like saying that teetotalers are alcoholics.
