Tommo.. selfish gene? That's funny, because pre-modern societies more often then not revolve around supporting the society, not the individual or the family. Family is a social construct, it's not human nature. That's why in alot of older societies there are references of paracide and suicide, because people just became a burden on the community and thought it quite moral to die with the help of their friends and children. It's been a while since I read this stuff, but I know many eskimoe tribes lived like this, and I'm pretty sure some Chinese too.

about 75% of the swiss population are christian... I wonder if Switzerland was included in this study of religion? Does anyone who's read it know? I'd say Swizterland is better off economically as a result of a better education system and culture industry. I mean, smorgasboards and blackmetal, how can you go wrong :cool:
