One Dead As Explosion Rocks Chemistry School

Town officials say the 40-year-old professor was propelled through the ceiling of a school laboratory, and found dead on the floor above.

I have to ask, did he make it through in one piece? Not likely. I also wonder what kind of cheap flooring was involved. Drywall ceilings I can see, but blowing a body through a floor has gots to be mighty messy.

Well, the article does say "...laboratory that researches high-risk chemical procedures". So, I would guess that he was trying a process known to be potentially deadly, and oops, mixed too much. There are a lot of compounds in this class. I know of a lot of chemicals used in industry that will kill you in a heartbeat, just by poisoning, they don't even have to explode.
