It’s as old as Sun Tzu (and most likely much older) — the basic strategy of attacking your opponent’s weak points, not the strong points.

Overcoming Bias has a post up about the religious’ questioning of their beliefs and the tendency therein to only attack the strong points. From there to a postulation as to why that is; why highly educated and rational people can remain religious; and what we should all do when examining our own beliefs.
